Chicago Tribune Gives Scion tC Two Thumbs Up

While seemingly everyone in the automotive press has heaped praise on the FR-S, as a whole, Scion itself hasn’t exactly been swimming in accolades. That’s what we here in the industry call putting it mildly. So it was cool to see the Chicago Tribune’s Robert Duffer throw some kind words at the sports car’s humble stablemate, the tC.

I wrote a review of the 2013 tC just about this time last year, and I liked it a lot. My tester had the Cement paint, and even with fierce competition from Lexus’ Ultra Sonic Blue Mica, it’s probably my favorite hue on Toyota Motor Corporation’s entire color palate.

All the Editors at ScionLife are big stick proponents, so it was particularly cool to read his take on the proper gearbox:

“The six-speed manual ($1,000 less than the automatic) is, in a word, easy. The stick is long and lazy, meaning it slides easily into expected gears. The clutch isn’t quick but the shifting is smooth and without much opportunity for rattling shifts by less experienced drivers. It’s a great transmission to learn on and one that won’t disappoint when you want to make aggressive moves.”

More people should learn to drive stick, so I hope some potential buyers read that and opt for a third pedal. While Duffer does mention the marque’s troubles—because it’s hard not too—the review is overwhelmingly positive. Head over to the Chicago Tribune to read the full review, and let me know what you think about it on the Forum!
