FT-1 Might be Way More Expensive then We Thought

We’ve all been drooling over Toyota’s FT-1 concept since it debuted last year. Between the no nonsense body lines, the epically cool active rear wing, and the real possibility that it will become the new and improved Supra, Toyota has been pulling our heartstrings. However, according to a new report, our hearts may not  be fulfilled just yet — not because the car will never happen, but because of the price.

According to Car & Driver, when the FT-1 concept finally makes it into production, it will cost more than the new Corvette C7. While they don’t have an actual number just yet, the magazine says its insiders state that the new car will have a price tag above $55,000. That’s not very Supra.

While I’m still hopeful that it won’t go that far past the Corvette price, it’s likely to get expensive if the rumors of a hybrid drive train prove true. Personally, I think it needs to compete more on a Mustang Boss level of price. Just under $50,000 would make this a perfect “Buy Now” kind of car.

Being it’s the LA Auto Show next week, I’ll try my best and grill the Toyota reps for more details about the car. Hopefully we will know more soon.
