HyperBlue Series Finally Priced

Here’s the thing: the Subaru STI and BRZ are already priced higher than they should be, given their individual performance levels. They just can’t compete with the likes of the Miata and the Golf. Yet somehow, in Subaru’s infinite wisdom, the company thinks tacking on an additional $4,300 and $2,295 respectively, for some cool blue paint, will somehow get more buyers interested in the car.

This just won’t happen.

After showing off the HyperBlue Series cars a few weeks ago, Subaru finally released the pricing on the two new special editions. For the BRZ, the new all blue car will cost $28,485, and the STI will come in at $39,790. Each well above what the cars are actually worth. And given the only upgrade with these editions are the blue color, blue stitching, and a frameless rearview mirror, we can’t help but wonder what Subaru has been smoking.

Only 700 of these HyperBlue STIs and 500 of the HyperBlue BRZs will be sold here in the states. My money’s on Subaru taking a giant bath on these cars, but what do you all think?
