Is the S-FR the Right Direction for Toyota?

A few weeks ago, Toyota unveiled the all new concept S-FR. A car that is supposed to slot right beneath the FR-S. It’s 157 inches long, just 66 inches wide, and makes around 130 horsepower. It’s a pint-sized sportscar that isn’t expected to make it to production here in America. Although, one of the editors here is practically calling Toyota and begging the company to build the little sportscar.

According to Toyota, like the FR-S, the S-FR is a back-to-basics sports coupe. It’s front-engine, rear-wheel drive, and has a manual transmission in the middle. And although I loved my FR-S for a time, the reason I got rid of it certainly wasn’t because it had too much power. Yet, here’s Toyota offering a similar idea with even less.

The styling is very cutesy, though that could be mellowed out a little bit if it were to ever make production. But we’re interested in what you all think of it? Is Toyota going the wrong way by offering something smaller and less powerful than the FR-S. Or are more Miata-like competitors good for building the cheap, enthusiast car world back up?
