Vote Now: Will Scion's Outreach to Metal Fans Work?
When I saw the report from Adweek about Scion reaching out to metal fans, I wasn’t particularly surprised. The brand has been heavily involved in music—Scion AV Club is loaded with content—since the inception of the brand, and Scion’s been present in the punk rock scene for years. My buddies the Spits played a Scion sponsored event here in Los Angeles a couple years back, and Scion released their single “Haunted Fang Castle” on its label.

Unfortunately the garage/punk crowd doesn’t have any money. Ever. And if they do happen to find some cash? They’re going to spend it on alcohol and drugs, just like their heroes did—who are all dead because of alcohol and drugs. These folks are bumming rides and taking the bus, not buying cars.

But for all of the negatives associated with metal shows and metal fans, they’re actually a pretty responsible lot. You don’t see a lot of fighting or other crap happen at shows, and from what I’ve heard—on reddit at least—there’s a real sense of community in the scene. Most of the featured content over on the A/V Club is metal, so it looks like Scion is going all out with this push. Check out the official Scion A/V video for Meshuggah’s Demiurgeideo below, and make sure to vote in our poll.
