Subaru May Deliver the BRZ STI, But Not the Way We’d Like

In recent reports, Subaru and Toyota have both stated that no power bump will be coming to the U.S. version of the Toyobaru twins. This has left a lot of people either scratching their heads wondering why, or lamenting to the Old Gods as to why won’t they listen to us! Essentially, it boils down to Toyota and Subaru not seeing a market for an incrementally faster car.

This, as we know, is a big load of bologna. However, recent rumblings, and the debut of the BRZ STI at the New York Auto Show might have Subaru changing its tune. According to a recent report from Automotive News, Subaru is attempting to get the okay for an STI BRZ within the next couple of years. Although the same report sticks to the no power increase company line, we could see a more track focused BRZ STI sooner rather than later.

While I wouldn’t hold my breath, it seems unbelievably short sighted for both Toyota and Subaru to nix the idea of a turbocharged engine for the Toyobaru twins. Especially considering that most people who have bought one either turbocharged or supercharged the car due to a lack of power. When will both Toyota and Subaru wake up and deliver us the car we actually want?
