I think we've all done it at one point but the question is what is the verdict on riding around with no wheel covers? Is this accepted behavior!?! :loser:

View Full Version : Any shame in driving around with no wheel covers? kevets 05-03-2007, 07:04 PM I think we've all done it at one point but the question is what is the verdict on riding around with no wheel covers? Is this accepted behavior!?! :loser: Neothin 05-03-2007, 07:05 PM sure it is... look at all the people with trim rings :) burstaneurysm 05-03-2007, 07:10 PM Admittedly, it's kinda jank. I had painted my black caps and now I have trim rings. It's okay, but they aren't really for showing off. Mooneyzs 05-03-2007, 07:21 PM This is how I rolled until I got my 18's...... http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v429/Mooneyzs/My%20Box/IMG_2825.jpg And Yes I made Center caps out of fence post tops from Home Depot......  http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v429/Mooneyzs/My%20Box/IMG_2827.jpg kevets 05-03-2007, 07:22 PM Yeah likewise, I wouldn't be all "check out my mad tyte wheels y0" but it doesn't seem any worse than the stock covers  kevets 05-03-2007, 07:23 PM lol... owning an xB really is a sort of organic experience Mooneyzs 05-03-2007, 07:25 PM lol... owning an xB really is a sort of organic experience   Dwatts5250 05-03-2007, 07:27 PM Ive got 2 separate sets of 3, of wheel covers....Ive lost the right rear, on both sets, make fast tight right turns.....and I NEVER see where they end up. So now...Im all about the Steelie look! BoxOffice 05-03-2007, 08:19 PM Mmmmm...maybe with trims rings or something else to jazz 'em up, but just plain ol' black steel wheels look like somebody just stole your wheel covers... pooder 05-03-2007, 08:29 PM I think no wheel covers -- especially if the steelies have chrome lug nuts and trim rings -- looks better than wheel covers that allow the steel to show through . . . like the stock wheel covers, for example. I would MUCH rather see either hubcaps over just the hub portion or full-coverage wheel covers. The stock ones and their ilk look like you're trying to get the look of non-steel wheels, but with the steel showing through, they look PHONY!! Jan06xB 05-03-2007, 08:35 PM You have to paint the covers with color matching paint to take your eye away from the gloss black rims underneath. I did mine in white and they look WAY BETTER than the boring silver that they are painted. Maybe a blacker glossy black paint on the steel rims would work or even a flat instead of the factory matt finish. ryuji16 05-03-2007, 08:48 PM nothing wrong with steel wheels. id much rather run steelies than hubcaps. hubcaps just make your wheels look smaller by accentuating the gap between the edge of the hubcap and your fender, thus making the gap appear bigger. if your whole wheel/rim was just entirely black, your fender gap (being also black) would be less noticeable. i was bored one day and started thinking of all the reasons why i seem to like steelies better than hubcaps. besides, there are plenty of rims out there that are far uglier than the pattern on steelies. Shutterbug 05-03-2007, 08:52 PM i ran no caps for a while till i got my disks. Sunny 05-03-2007, 09:00 PM Trim rings and center caps for me. hotbox05 05-03-2007, 09:06 PM I rocked blackouts for over a year and a half. just bought 17x7 blackouts for my toyota pickup L4rry_B1rd 05-03-2007, 09:23 PM winter = stocks no covers... i like it that way xBigJefe 05-03-2007, 09:24 PM http://www.scionlife.com/gallery/personal/50016_1.jpg Proud to be a man of steel. Isn't Japanese steel supposed to be some of the best in the world? Show off the quality! burstaneurysm 05-03-2007, 09:31 PM hubcaps just make your wheels look smaller by accentuating the gap between the edge of the hubcap and your fender, thus making the gap appear bigger. if your whole wheel/rim was just entirely black, your fender gap (being also black) would be less noticeable. When I switched from the blacked out caps to trim rings, the fact that the wheel is 15" is way more obvious with the trim rings than when everything is blacked out... I'm still undecided as to which I like better. Iron_Lion_Scion 05-03-2007, 09:34 PM Hells yeah, thats how I roll. http://img237.imageshack.us/img237/8346/droppedonteinscr0.jpg kevets 05-03-2007, 09:42 PM I never thought about these trim rings... I want it now lol ryuji16 05-03-2007, 09:51 PM When I switched from the blacked out caps to trim rings, the fact that the wheel is 15" is way more obvious with the trim rings than when everything is blacked out... I'm still undecided as to which I like better. i think all 3 of your options right now (trim rings, black hubcaps, straight steelie) are all good options man. the trim rings may make the rims look a little bit smaller, but its nowhere near as bad as full silver hubcaps. id just stay away from the silver hubcaps dude :) nicholasbanda 05-03-2007, 10:08 PM Personally, I don't care for straight steelies. The trim rings...I like. I keep the wheel covers on mine. I'm just too lazy & cheap to go get trim rings. Iron_Lion_Scion 05-03-2007, 10:42 PM What ya do is wax up the steelies real good so they shine then put the rings on and bam, looks like you got new rims. Especially when your cruzin down the freeway no one can tell they are OEM steelies. bbscionxb 05-04-2007, 01:15 AM Steelies all the way baby!!!!! first thing i took when i got the the car like 4 years still rolling with them. http://img391.imageshack.us/img391/3332/picture042hd8.jpg (http://imageshack.us) http://img501.imageshack.us/img501/4448/picture042ts4.jpg (http://imageshack.us) http://img501.imageshack.us/img501/1493/picture015qk2ep1.png (http://imageshack.us) bbscionxb 05-04-2007, 01:22 AM http://img238.imageshack.us/img238/8162/picture043qb3.jpg (http://imageshack.us) 813_toaster 05-04-2007, 01:23 AM mine came with some after market hubcaps that it looks like they got scion stickers and put in the middle of them. should i leave them or get trim rings? look in my profile for pic[/img] mrfuzzy4 05-04-2007, 01:54 AM one SOME xBs it looks tight, but if there is nothing there but black paint... looks like your 'caps got jacked.... now if you chome your caps and rims then it looks good... but otherwise? save up for some 15-16's... not TOO pricy! ryuji16 05-04-2007, 03:59 AM mine came with some after market hubcaps that it looks like they got scion stickers and put in the middle of them. should i leave them or get trim rings? look in my profile for pic[/img] dude. Has anyone anodized theirs yet? nerdsports 05-04-2007, 08:55 PM The only steelies I find acceptable must be widened. =P bluexb88 05-06-2007, 09:19 AM y'all are a bad influence... i popped off all my hubcaps yesterday. now i'm riding with steelies!! ;P typhoonorchid 05-06-2007, 12:08 PM Shame? You kidding, there are no rules homie. Just steelies for the first month. http://memimage.cardomain.net/member_images/10/web/658000-658999/658073_19_full.jpg Then, yes, the ever popular trim rings. http://memimage.cardomain.net/member_images/10/web/658000-658999/658073_16_full.jpg teabox 05-07-2007, 08:07 PM Steelies are best 8). I don't like hubcaps, IMO. Its funny how I was the first xB...(not really the 1st First xB owner in town, u get the point)....to rock the steelies.....then everyone else saw how my box looks and then jocked my style. NOW, every xB in town has them rocking....all thanks to me. But here is a personal rule of mines...if u are rocking the steelie, please, have ur box lowered first. Its not right having the steelies on a normal height car. But that is just me... tC_vixen 05-07-2007, 08:13 PM Um... I wouldnt do it. teabox 05-07-2007, 08:18 PM Um... I wouldnt do it. However, my previous car was a civic w/ hub caps! & I wouldnt have done it back then either. L4rry_B1rd 05-08-2007, 03:13 PM Um... I wouldnt do it. tC wheels are the same as xB steelies... STOCK dont see much of a difference :eyebrow: There's a difference... you can do some work with the tC alloys. I've seen some with decent paint jobs. They look good blacked out too. Either way, the tC has a better starting point as far as shoes. |
