i know i'm not 'sposed to say anything bad, new guy and all, but man oh man is this server s l o w.....anyway the place that installed new radio didnt check and there was a really good doris day cd in there. i gotta get it out. can this be done on the stock plain jane radio without power being applied to unit? anyone who can help might have a free cd comin! thanks!

I hate it when that happens. In the past I just pulled out the new HU and pluged the old one in. I'm not sure if you can get it out with any power.

Yea, I just did the same thing today. I swapped head units and realized that I left a disc in the old one... damn. I'm thinking that if you remove the faceplate, it might have a manual override. Older disc drives had something like that.

Take the top off the unit and you should be able to work the disc out.

If it were me I 'd consider myself lucky on that loss and move on but if you really want to extract that disc the radio needs to be powered back up or the top can be removed carefully and then the disc can be carefully slid out. It really only needs to be power on two leads and a ground.

By the way the advantage of the iPod is that once you rip the CD to memory you never have to carry CDs around any more.
