View Full Version : TRD "honeycomb" style grille?
jimsxb 09-12-2004, 02:12 PM does anyone think TRD will produce a grille like the one for the matrix?
or something that would match our stock lower grilles?
I wanna get rid of my white grille, and more importnatly, that UGLY scion
logo. whomever thought up the design behing that logo has very little tast
IMHO.
any photos of good looking black grilles?
jim
chucksu 09-12-2004, 02:20 PM From what I have seen this might be the TRD grill (at least in japan any ways) Looks like stock but I dont know

jimsxb 09-12-2004, 02:38 PM I'd entertain any black grill w/o a logo on it, but matching the honeycomb on the lower grills would be great!
chucksu, you know where to get blank or toyota centercaps for stock 9 spoke wheel covers?
gonna try for a toyota rebadge, and those center caps have to go...
chucksu 09-12-2004, 02:51 PM Sorry I cant help you there. Yeah a honey comb grill might look good depending on how big the combs are. If you want that toyota logo on the wheels might want to see if you can find wheel covers from a toyota with 15". It wont be stock xB covers but it would be different & have that logo.
Edit: Maybe you could find these wheel covers. They might look a little odd but its a 15" wheel cover.

excel_xb 09-12-2004, 05:06 PM jeez chucksu howcome u know so much. :?:
Old_Punk 09-12-2004, 05:09 PM Grillcraft offers a matching set of mesh grills -- not the same as the stock lowers, but nice anyway. They come in silver or black.
http://www.grillcraft.com/applications/applications.asp?action=viewDetails&make=TOYOTA+TRUCK&model=SCION+XB&ext=(ALL+MODELS)&years=2004
jimsxb 09-12-2004, 05:12 PM yeah I saw those. maybe I'll go just upper for now
anyone have photos in black?
jim
chucksu 09-12-2004, 05:14 PM jeez chucksu howcome u know so much. :?:

 $331.69 for 3 grills seems like a lot of cash IMO.
jimsxb 09-12-2004, 05:28 PM OH, the IN-TAR-NET. I love that thing!! i learn about all kinds of stuff on that thar computer box.
yeah, $340 is more than lil ole jimmie's bank acct wants to spend too!
but I bet if TRD made an upper grill, it'd be that much for one!
grillcraft stuff is real nice too. had it on my WRX

Billet grill sets are selling for that much, and billet is so-o-o-o-o passé (unless you paint it).

if you peel off the scion emblem, there is a toyota one under it. it even has the holes for the chrome logo. i suspect one from a camry should fit right on.
jimsxb 09-12-2004, 08:03 PM thx all
gonna look into these options this week
jim
carwashindad 09-12-2004, 08:15 PM OK my question is why would you want Toyota hub caps instead of the Scion's. Yes I know its a Toyota but why represent Toyota on a Scion. Would be like sticking Nissan hub caps on an Infiniti or Toyota hubs on a Lexus.
But hey to each is own I guess.
jimsxb 09-12-2004, 08:19 PM i dont want toyota wheel covers. I want theScion badges off my scion ones.
I really dislike the scion logo and simply which to remove it from the vehicle.
and yes, to each their own. I can't fathom why anyone would want to mod this
vehicle for power perfromance gains, but whatever, to each their own.

Back in August, I went to the Carlisle All-Truck Nationals in Carlisle Pa. Took my Avalanche since it was a truck show and parked on the fairgrounds. Detailed the Av for a 1/2 or so and took off to see the sights and sounds of a killer show. Came back to the Av about 2 hours later only to find a blue box parked behind me. Noticed right away that this otherwise stock xB had a honeycomb upper grill!!Took a real close look to see if it was a lower grill that had been modified or aftermarket. The honeycomb was a bit smaller and was set into the stock xB grill with the middle 4 horizontal bars removed (leaving just the top and botton bar). Fit was perfect, curve was perfect, this was sweet!
So there is something out there although I haven't found it yet. If the owner of that blue box is on this forum, share!
By the way, out of more than 5000 trucks on the showfield, I counted 3 Avalanches....................................and 5 xB's!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Because in Japan the Infinity, Lexus, and Acura brands DO NOT EXIST, they are called by their manufacture's name. For example:
American Name = Japanese name
Lexus GS 300/GS 400 = Toyota Aristo
Lexus IS 300 = Toyota Altezza
Lexus SC300 - Toyota Soarer
Acura RSX = Honda Integra
Acura NSX = Honda NSX
Acura TSX = Honda Accord
Infinity G35 = Nissan Skyline
There are a lot of people who want to "JDM" (Japanese Domestic Market) their cars, I for one am one of them. I appreciate the form and function of most JDM cars/parts/accessories.
BTW: If you can remove the Scion badges on your hubcaps you will see Toyota or bB engraved into the plastic. Just figure out a way to remove the Scion caps.
carwashindad 09-12-2004, 08:51 PM I agree with the adding power to the xB. Why?? I think it is a waste myself. Its fun enuff just creapin it. Understand wanting the bB hubs but are they different on the bB then on the xB/ n ot sure if the JDM hubs are differnt totally. Oh and the G35 is not the skyline. Might want to relook and find out that it is a tweeked Z350 which is called the Fairlady Z. I don't believe we have anything that was a Skyline. Silvia is a different story thou. Thnk we all will agree they are the 240 series here.
Either way I am gonna go rip a hub off and scope it out now.
What do the bB alloys look like??

I think the scion logo is tight... but it looks like they ripped it off of club Space:
http://www.cooljunkie.com/images/ads_clubs/miami/space/ad_logo.gif
carwashindad 09-12-2004, 09:02 PM Yeah I agree they look alot alike but I doubt it was stolen. Hey who knows. It could be smaller on the grill in the front thou. LOL
jimsxb 09-12-2004, 09:18 PM I like the scion type all boxy and stretched like on the radio, just not the oval logo
"to each their own" its my new motto?!?
I'm gonna cruise by the toyota delaer after work and take a look @ wheel covers on the lot. see
what has the caps and what doesn't
think I'm gonna score abB logo for the front grill, then maybe add something on there. kinda no to into the bB thing either, looks kinda flintstone or something.
for that matter, I'm not super into the bulbous toyota T either.
I know, I'm picky! but this is what maes our boxes different...
already got my toyota badge (spelled out), VVT-i and TRD badges. just gotta tie up the loose ends on the grill and wheel covers. have a feeling the steering wheel is gonna be a tricky one to delete!! and thats the one I see most!
thx for everyone's input

The bB alloys are the Twist alloys we had for the xB but has a bB cover. The hubcaps don't have the bB logo.
black_xb 09-12-2004, 09:30 PM The owner of that blue box is on this forum. His name is mad sciontist he's in the mid atlantis forums. He recently had his xb wrecked and is selling the grille. He works at a body shop and used the honeycomb grille from a ford focus. Plus the stock xb grille. its a nice piece of work. if your interested his name is mike i think and if he hasn't sold it he probably will.

carwashindad 09-12-2004, 11:47 PM ok so I made a mistake. But then again since they aren't in the states really haven't seen to many Skylines. Guess I should sit in front of computer moreoften huh.

Both the G35 Sedan & Coupe are sold here in the states. I just posted the pic to show you that the G35 is a modern Skyline. Thats up to you if you want to spend more time in front of your computer.
Max2k 09-13-2004, 01:08 AM You can use the steering wheel and airbag out of another USDM toyota car to match it to the japanese one. Someone did it, the thread was called "Got JDM Steering?"
KevinxB 09-13-2004, 01:57 AM ... in Japan the Infinity, Lexus, and Acura brands DO NOT EXIST, they are called by their manufacture's name.
Lexus is sold in Japan. This site shows everywhere Lexus is available:

 Thats a trick. Lexus is sold in Japan under Toyota there. It would be good to assume that www.toyota.co.jp/index.html is Toyota Japan right? So then why is there not a www.lexus.co.jp ?
http://www.toyota.co.jp/Showroom/All_toyota_lineup/Altezza/index.html
Thats the IS300 in the states (or it looks like it to me)
Back_In_Black_xA 09-13-2004, 02:34 AM They just started selling Lexus in Japan not long ago.
KevinxB 09-13-2004, 02:49 AM Correction. Lexus will be sold in Japan. For now it is available in other Asian countries like Thailand and Korea. The website is http://www.lexus-asia.com. I read about this a long time ago and thought it would have already happened by now. Articles:
http://msnbc.msn.com/id/5067361
http://www.freep.com/money/autonews/japan3_20031203.htm
http://www.motortrend.com/features/news/112_news030225_lex/
Looks like it will happen in Aug 2005. Also, it seems like they're going to go Scion-style and sell Lexus cars within existing Toyota dealerships.
chucksu 09-13-2004, 02:53 AM That makes some sense why there is no site out right now. My main question why? If Toyota Japan sold the cars, that we in America know as Lexus, what is Lexus going to sale? Are they just going to chop the Toyota Japan Line & start slapping Lexus badges onto the Toyotas or come out with complete new cars for Lexus Japan. :?:
Edit:  ok I read some of those links. I understand how but not still the full why. I dont see why the Japanese would care if it had a Toyota name or Lexus name on it.
wgeee7478 09-13-2004, 03:54 AM I just think it has something to do with marketing strategy. My theory is that people over there are so used to the Toyota brand that they need to use a newer name. Kinda like Scion and Toyota. Why Toyota just didn't bring out the bB but rather they brought out the xB under the Scion name. Believe it or not, when my friend went back and stayed their for about 6 months for work, he saw some toyota owners change their badges with Lexus badges because at the time Lexus was not available in Japan.
I do have a question though. I thought the G35 coupe is called the Skyline and they named the G35 sedan the V35. I saw the picture but I thought I saw it somewhere that somebody mentioned that.

I think we came down to the V35 being the platform. Like the R32, R33, R34 skylines. We guessed the new platform is a V35 because it does not have much in common with the old R series. So in the states the G35 is a sport sedan & sport coupe. In japan its a skyline I guess coupe & sedan.
Chikubi 09-13-2004, 06:59 AM In japan its a skyline I guess coupe & sedan.
Yup, that's exactly it -- Skyline Coupe and Sedan. Both came out while I was working there, sedan first. then coupe later. Here's the link to the site for it, you'll see both pictured. http://www2.nissan.co.jp/SKYLINE/top.html
wgeee7478 09-13-2004, 04:19 PM I see, I see.
"so desu nay" I believe it's written.
