View Full Version : HOW TO TURN OFF traction control / VCS
hahajoey 12-17-2003, 05:18 PM ok sorry if this is in the wrong forum..
i just wanna know is there a way to turn off traction control
AND VCS? i noticed when i turn off traction control(via the button)
and take a turn hard.. the VCS light(the car with the sliding deal icon)
still pops up.. does that impede the car or control the car? im guessing
it might? can i turn off vcd AND traction control completely? or is
trac off alraedy doing that? thanks all.
scionracerxb 12-17-2003, 06:41 PM dam....you must be taking the croners super hard...i've never seen the vsc light come on before
Rhobz 12-17-2003, 06:44 PM When you turn traction control off via the dash button, VSC stays on. VSC is not meant to be able to be turned off by the owner/operator of the vehicle. But I do remember a few people on here finding (though accidentally) a way to turn it off. Hopefully one of them will chime in.
onecentJay 12-17-2003, 06:53 PM Geez, are you trying to see if you can roll it or what?
I don't know if its wise to push the limits of the traction control to the point where you have to turn it off... But that's just my opinion
JDMxB 12-17-2003, 07:05 PM Please excuse Hahajoey...he always wanted to be a 'drifter' but he couldn't achieve that status in his previous car, a 2000 Honda CR-V.
He likes to pull his handbrake around corners alot and scare passengers while he does his Takumi Fujiwara imitations around So. Cal...making real drifters run and hide in mountainsides.
hahajoey 12-17-2003, 10:41 PM first off.. HOW DID SOMEONE MANAGE TO TURN IT OFF?
and 2nd..
DAMNIT JDMXB.. you let the cat outta the bag!!!
i just wanna know how to turn off vcs cuz when the tires
break loose(the crappy tires they are) i can feel someting
hindering it.. like i can feel the car isn't free.. u know?
im NOT drifting it, and i don't take turns super hard. i've just
came to wonder how to turn it off? i think i tried to HOLD down the button..
or like hold it down when u start the engine.. but i dunno how to
tell if VCS is on or off.. there IS an vcs light.. so i duno someone please
help
and ignore jdmxb's commentary lol =X
hahajoey are those work wheels on your avatar? and second- you feel like the VSC holds you back? I don't understand
JDMxB 12-18-2003, 02:59 AM You can turn it off--but it's not meant to be user accessable.
So you probably will have to get down underneath the car and disconnect something.
Until then--you can continue pulling your handbrake and skidding into driveways.

yea its some work wheel.. i was looking thru some JDM sites and i cropped that picture.. i like that design and MASSIVE LIP!
anyways.. vcs feels like it i dunno like is slowing the car down a little if the tires
are skidding. i just wanna know if theres a fuse.. or a connector..
or like a way to turn it off?
i know that the new m3 has a traction control button. IF U HOLD IT DOWN..
for a while.. it actually takes it into a REAL traction control OFF not just
traction control.. but like VCS or wahtever that car has..
i dunno but anybody's idea's will help! didn't someone dyno their car
at moda car and bbist(steve) or someone like got rid of the VCS problem during
dyno? anyways let me know
Wide_tC 12-20-2003, 02:39 AM I did not really post this (Because driving without it is dangerous) but to turn off the VCS which is connected to the ABS system you have to pull the fuse which is in the engine compartment.
Again it is dangerous but that is how you do it.

oh boy....I can imagine all the boxes laid out on their sides starting with Joey.
hahajoey 12-20-2003, 08:22 AM i was GOING to do that but i was worried that if
i disconnected that fuse.. the ABS light would show up
and then i wouldn't be able to disable the light(u know like SRS AIRBAGS)..
just wanted to make sure before i try that.. and without VCS.... and abs
or whatever. the car will just be a regular.. NO ANYTHING.. just GO/BRAKE
right? no TCS/VCS none of that stuff.. i just wanna see the difference...
I AM NOT A RACER, IM NOT AN AUTO X'er..
i'll leave that up to stevie bbist..
i just wanted to know. thanks all
PSyCHo-RaGe 12-20-2003, 07:56 PM When i was installing my TRD Short Shfiter I found a box that held the gyro for the VCS. I'm wondering if it would be possible to unplug it and see what happens. I've been lazy and havent tried it.
