View Full Version : Lightweight wheels advice
Gardiner 05-09-2007, 11:10 PM I have been looking at all the wheels out there, so many choices. What I want is a good ride, great handling and no loss of acceleration. It's a lot to ask for I guess.
So far I think maybe a 16 wheel with medium height sidewalls will give me a nice ride and keep the handling good. I would like to have the wheel light so it won't affect acceleration too bad. I would also like them to look nice.
So my question to you folks, what wheels might fit my wants? Anyone setup like I am asking and if so, how do you like it.
DisneybB 05-10-2007, 02:55 PM I you go on discounttire.com you will find several 15 and 16" wheels. I have 15" enkei J10 with stock tires. If you go 16" you can get 205-50's and still have some sidewall to absorb those bumps. Rota makes nice lightweight rims. If you stay around 18 lbs per rim you are the same as the steel wheels.
burstaneurysm 05-10-2007, 03:33 PM Other options include the Konig light weight wheels. The Feather and Minuz are 15" coming in at 10lbs each. Other manufacturers have light weights but they can get pricey. Those two Konigs are light and are about $100 each.
skoobus 05-10-2007, 03:42 PM I've got the 15x6.5 feathers in black, nice wheels, can definetly feel more feedback through them though.
Archngl 05-10-2007, 03:58 PM Konig Helium is also very lightweight
Gardiner 05-10-2007, 05:07 PM I was thinking something like these might be good.
Falken Wheel Hanabi, 11 pounds and $95 each.

Gardiner 05-10-2007, 05:14 PM Also thinking about these, Flik Blast, $110 and 11.9 pounds. Just not sure about how the finish would look on my Polar White xB.

These I like! I almost ordered them but they were not available yet in the 38mm offset. The first 2 ugh! The polished lip makes them look much nicer. I don't like the tires blending into the wheels.

I thought the stock steelies are more like 20-22 lbs each, since the measured weight of rim + tire = 38 lbs. (tires are about 13-15 lbs each)
DriverXa 05-11-2007, 05:11 AM 15" Konig Feathers on stock rubber, discounttiredirect.com $99/each + free shipping. I love em, looks really good on the car. Very comfy ride, lots of grip for what I use, and the car is much more responsive. Its a good bang for the buck rim.
stankubrick 05-11-2007, 09:34 AM If you are willing to spend a bit more, get Enkei RPF1 - 15x7 are 9.5 lbs and about $185/wheel.
Ultra light and super strong. Really not too expensive considering they are possibley even better than Volks!

Are those the Rewinds?

Yes

I read a while ago that someone put a steelie on a scale and got 18 pounds. Tire is around 20 so that =38 lbs.
stankubrick 05-11-2007, 11:31 PM A friend had RPF1s in stock today, so I made an impulse buy.... Enkei RPF1 15x7 +35 with Falken 512 Ziex 195/55. Wheel + Tire = under 28 lbs!!! My car feels quicker, suspension absorbs bumps noticeably better, and my gas mileage has already increased! Highly recommended :)
heyitzdrahcir 05-11-2007, 11:51 PM Regamaster Evo 16" FTW
Gardiner 05-12-2007, 06:24 PM Thanks for the advice, I am really learning toward the Enkei RPF1's, then maybe the Rewinds. The best price I have found so far on the RPF1's is $180 at Kaufmann Tire.
813_toaster 05-12-2007, 08:57 PM go with something like axis there real light

I read that to, but I cannot see that 185/60 15 tire weighting more then the steel wheel ... its gotta be the other way around.
stankubrick 05-14-2007, 08:44 PM Oddly, tirerack.com has 2 weights listed for the oem 185/60-15 Goodyear Eagle LS: 16 lbs and 18 lbs.

Gardiner 05-19-2007, 02:21 AM I got some new wheels today, not quite as light as I wanted but so much better than what I had.
