Yes, I searched!!

I need to know what shocks you guys are using for your c/f hatches? Mine just got installed w/out the shocks b/c they are just too much for the lightweight hatch. Couldnt even close the hatch with them on and also they shoot the hatch up soo fast if you dont watch out you'll take a hard shot to the face!! Help me out guys, I need an alternative cuz I sure aint using a stick to hold it open lol!!

nah I'm looking for a different alternative then that. trust me, we considered it, but that just throws everything off.

i need something asap tho, trunk moves around alot without the shocks on plus it just sucks not having them!

Maybe you could try going to the junkyard and looking for an older car with similar but weaker struts?

i swear i just posted it up like a day ago lol.. well from what i heard only the motor-fx ones are available but i haven't personally tried them so i i'm unusre if it will work properly otherwise do what i did, use a piece of wood to hold it up lol.. yeah i kno its ghetto but it worked lol...

Call up redline, or contact them. They can soften the strut so that its not so powerful, they did that for my hood strut.

i also have the same question

I have the same problem with my CF hatch. Actually the glass came unstuck from my hatch about a month after the install and was more or less flapping in the wind. It was of course very dangerous, and i expected the shop to blame it on my aftermarket hatch.

However when i got there they intiially said that their guy must not have prepped- later they said that the force of the struts popping it open was torquing the CF hatch and would eventually pry the glass off again.

Trust me- using a single strut is not an option. It may be for xB drivers, but our hatch is much heavier, and it will definitely damage your CF if not your glass to do so.

www.stabilus.com manufactures the gas springs for the hatch, so it might just be a matter of finding one with the right ratio to weight, size, and then finding someplace that sells them.

So far I haven't gotten anywhere. Anyone else have progress?

wow your glass came loose?! i'm surprized you were even able to use the oem shocks, i cant even come close to closing the hatch with them on. using just one it can close, but it pushes the whole thing to one side and makes a big gap on the other LOL. i contacted redlinetuning but havent heard back from them :(

use the tein ones people bought for the xb hoods. maybe that will help

do you know what size they are? i did consider it, but just assumed they were too big when i saw the pictures of them. that would be sweet if they worked!

I have the VIS trunk and I'm using the stock shocks, I've had my car for about 3 years now so i guess they are really worned out, I know that does not help, but maybe you can find someone with a tC that has allot of miles on it and trde with him/her, good luck.

i contacted redlinetuning but havent heard back from them :(
Let me know if you do! I contacted them and got the following response:

Hello,

Unfortunately we have no way to provide you with replacement hatch gas springs - all of our QuickLIFT systems are designed specifically for the vehicle and the application listed.

Thanks,

MotorFX website and phone number don't seem to be working so they may be in some kind of trouble. I got my hood from them but had problems with shipping and overcharges etc...

I don't mind having to *lift* it up, so long as I don't have to *hold* it up- has anyone thought about working on some kind of hinge system that would lock into place at the top, then fold down flat? It has to be possible- and if anyone is going to find a way, it will be SLifers.

PM me if you're interested in this project.

So far the 'hinge' thing hasn't worked out for me... just a long shot, but has anybody tried using/adapting the gas springs from the xB or xA hatch? Those hatches must be at least slightly lighter than the stock tC hatch..

Again longshot but..

i had an ae86 a couple of months ago and there shocks for the hatch is pretty crappy/can only handle a certain amount of weight. go to a junk yard or check the club4ag.com forums to see if you can get a set of those shocks and tell us if it works. thanks!
