Xb Fog Lamps
I just had the fog lamps installed and have to say that there is not a large improvement in regards to lighting the front of the vehicle. Is this normal or do they need to be adjusted outwards?
The foglamps are not supposed to make the area brighter but rather light up a bigger area. When I installed my wife's foglamps I noticed that the light pattern is a little bit wider up front than just running the headlights alone. If you are not noticing a difference, you might want to check the angle of the foglamps, they are a little adjustable, not by much, but enough to change the angle so that it points down to the floor. If you want brighter lights on the other hand you will probably have to change your bulbs or go with a HID kit.
They're so other cars can see you in fog, hence the name "foglamps." That's why they're mounted lower. If they were super bright they would make it impossible to see in the fog.
On the xB they're mainly cosmetic.

Umm, $350 to have the pre-wired foglamps installed from the dealer I bought my xB from,
Or........
Search on E-bay and buy a set from a dealer in Florida, pay about $200 with shipping, and follow the exact directions included with the foglamps, to plug in a switch, a relay, and plug into the back of the new lamps, no wiring, no mess, no fuss. I didn't even need to unhook the battery (but I suggest it for those who don't understand electricity) and in about 1/2 hour I have my factory fog lamps.
I think my time is worth $300 per hour.

Yeap, well said. I got a dealer discount for mine ($204) and the install is probably the easiest electrical accessory to install. No need to hack wires, run wires through the firewall, or drill holes... nothing that would make life difficult.
On the other hand, I like blinding the hell out of myself with HID's in my fogs and my headlights. Especially driivng up near Skyline blvd. at night to visit my mom.
j/k.
It's more to annoy the other drivers. Had them on my teg, now my benz, and still thinking about it on my wife's xB.

I pretty much knew what fog lamps are supposed to do. The reason for my post is that they are totally lousy in comparizon to other vehicles. The added light is not going to do anything in the fog. On other vehicles you can see the light extending to the side compared to the normal driving lights, but on the Xb it is not really the case. I will try to adjust them and use brighter bulbs. Thanks.

That's just my theory on foglights :?

Your theory is absolutely correct. Those are also the same reasons you shouldn't use you high beams in fog. You have less visibility because the light is reflected off the fog.
Rear fog lights (possibly mandatory in Europe and found on many European cars) are so people can see you in fog. They're typically a red single light mounted on one side of the car.

Sweeeeettt! The only problem I see with the rear foglights on that car is that I don't think people have to be worried about hitting it if it's moving cause they'd be too concerned with just trying to catch up with it. haha
Anyway, I've heard the functionality of foglights both ways so I guess both of you are right. It's suppose to give you auxillary lighting in a way that gives you better visibility in fog and also it let's others see where you are. Now that I think about it, I really think the thought these were driving lights, where they are also aux lights like foglamps but they have a more directed light pattern, whereas foglights are wide and low, to add to your main headlights to give you more illumination on the road.

Skyline sprots a Do-Luck AeroWivern kit. Sweet parts for a sweet car. I have been trying to figure a way to add a rear foglight to my xB. I want it to look as if it were factory. I did this to my MX-6 and converted a backup light(left one) into a foglight very similar to the Skyline.. I covered the white lens with red vinyl hooked it to my factory foglight switch. Worked well and kept the tailgaters off my a$$.
