Default building a turbo kit

ive always wanted to go turbo, something to add a little, but never liked the cost of ANY of those kits out there. i also didnt want that big of a turbo in the first place.

SOO!

i amnaged to scrap a garrett 14B off of my friend with absolutely NO shaft play.

i plan on spending less than 1200 for EVERYTHING

im buying a FMIC from him for 100, plan on either getting some universal IC piping or going to this guy my friend was telling me about who will weld all of the flanges i need and will mandrel me some 2.5 inch piping. i still need to find some flanges and an o2 housing for hot sidebut im really thinking i can make this work, and run low boost.

comments / suggestions?

uhm...yeah...turbocharging your car is definetly not something you wanna cheap out on...

don't cut corners and costs becuase you will pay in the longrun..or even short run, take a look at this post, the guy bought a great kit for his xa, but instead of buying the right injectors for his xa, he retrofited some from an acura tsx, well, they leaked, and this happened:

turboing your car is not something you do on a small budget.

I was considering going with a custom setup, but then scrapped the idea. You plan to spend $1200 for everything, but you can get at stage 0 ZPI for about $2K. Might as well go with a tested proven setup. For low boost, it's fine, and has a smallish quick spooling turbo.

My thing was, well, if I'm going to to that, I'm going to want an intercooler, injectors, and turn up the boost. I figured, I might was well do that from the get go, so I went with Turbo Toyotas.

I know someone who spent $1,300 in a custom kit then had to spend an extra $1,800 in correcting the details of the custom setup.

Go for the kit!
