My HTM 08 xB
I picked it up on the 12th. Already got it tinted, took off the rear windshield wiper and just ordered springs for it (2 1/2'' for the front, 2 5/8" for the back.) Also ordered 2 Alpine PDX-1.1000 amps, 2 Alpine Type X SWX-1043D subs, 2 Alpine PDX-2.150 amps, a set of Apline Type X Pro SPX-13PRO 6.5'' components, a set of Alpine Type X Pro SPX-17PRO 5.25" components and a Pioneer AVIC-D3 with Bluetooth/Nav/iPod and Sirius.

the xB2 and the mazda5 are neck and neck in the upcoming segment. the "cool" people mover
cheap , pretty good gas mileage , still fun and customizeable
neither are for ME but I have a feeling they will both be quite popular and spur more similarly designed vehicles.
the xB2 has the edge over the mazda because of it being a "youth brand" and people know the buzz and the capabilities that scions give. amazing value with endless possibilities as far as customization goes.
Yeah, the pillar tape is a beyotchhh w/o using heat. Blow dryer, yes. Heat gun, prolly not. But direct sunlight for a while works good too! I left the right side in the sun for about 30 minutes and bam, came off like butta!!
1st of all, I love the blue
but since I will be eventually putting 3-color graphics across the sides like on my PW '05, I went with the white.
I paid particular attention to the way that your shaving the vinyl on the pillar affected the side-profile on the lighter colored Gen2 paint-schemes. On the darker colors, the effect would not be as dramatic for sure.
One of the big differences between Gen1 and Gen2 in that vein is that the black trim on the pillar post next to the windshield makes the smoked window profile start at the windshield and then end directly behind the rear door on the new model. The 1st Gen starts with the glass, after the painted windshield pillar behind the painted doorframe and then continues beyond the back door thru an additional small window in the rear quarter.
That window which is missing and the blacked-out pillar post is IMHO what makes the most dramatic difference in the side profile on the Gen2 vs the Gen1.
I am toying with removing the vinyl and exposing the paint on the front pillar posts only, on my SW '08, and having my local sign/graphics guys add a matching matte-black vinyl to the rear quarter to extend the smoked/blacked-out area to within 2 or 3" of the rear hatchglass (following the existing door frame lines and countours). The Gen1 ended the window/door profile at about 6" ahead of the rear hatchglass.
That would make the Gen2 rear quarter roofpost look thinner, more like the Gen1 and give the optical illusion that the window line runs back further.
I'm sure I'm not the only one with Photoshop skills that could do a mockup of this but I'm just too plain lazy and I've gotta pretty good idea in my head of how it would look. If I follow the existing contour with the taper of the window profile, it would only require about roughly a 15 x 22' pc of 3M lettering vinyl cut-to-shape to do it. If you wanted to take some of the tapered/chopped look out of the design, there is a bodyline above the doors that could be blacked-out that would add more 'box' to the look as well.
Just before anyone asks me why I want to turn a Gen2 into a Gen1...
I'm not
... I just like to personalize the exterior cosmetics, which is why I have already added a full-metal billet-grill and shaved all the Scion badges and replaced them with Toyota & JDM ovals, logos, and scripts as well as 16" '07 Camry wheel covers etc. Since I have to (eventually) use it for business, I can't do 20" bling on airbags and color-changing paint with vinyls.
So, this is what I do.
I'm seriously considering the vinyl mod. I suggested. If anyone wants to take the time to create a photoshop and post it, it might be a while before my schedule will spell me enough to get the xB to the design shop to finalize it for-real so I can post pictures. On the otherhand, I may get 'itchy' to get this done, so I may swap the contents of my '05 into it and take on the business-run so I can swing by the shop and get the vinyl mapped out. When my wife takes it during my workday back to the dealer to get the spoiler installed, maybe they could install the then already mapped panels...
...Yeah... ...that might be a plan....
