View Full Version : Airbag Light Resistor Fix (Aftermarket Seats)
SF2K4 05-19-2007, 12:08 AM YES!!! I WIN!!! :P
DISCLAIMER
Yada yada I'm not responsible for anything that goes wrong. Nothing should :P . So let's do it!
What you'll need:
1. Aftermarket seats (previously having stock seats that had side airbags)
2. That annoying SRS light :P
3. 2 5-ohm resistors (or for my example, 4 10-ohm resistors) [1 5-ohm per side or 2 10-ohms per side]
WARNING!!! Make SURE while doing this that the (-) on the battery is UNPLUGGED! Never wanna mess with the SRS system with the battery still connected. Give the system a few minutes to discharge before you start working with it.
First, the harness we're working with, is the yellow one that is among the other ones that attached to the seatbelt sensors.
Take two 10-ohm resistors:
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v409/SF2K4/resist1.jpg
You'll need to put them in parallel, so take one and wrap its leads around the others like so:
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v409/SF2K4/resist2.jpg
Bend the lead combinations into a U shape:
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v409/SF2K4/resist3.jpg
Finally, plug the leads into the harnesses like so:
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v409/SF2K4/resist4.jpg
Secure with electrical tape (no pic) just so the resistors don't pop out down the road.
Voila! No SRS light:

:)
Frosty355 05-19-2007, 12:18 AM Good info. I know quite a few people looking for this!
O5_TRD_tC 05-19-2007, 12:39 AM good work!
trialsindude 05-19-2007, 03:17 AM GOOD STUFF MAN, congrats!
amdforever 05-19-2007, 03:20 AM Congrats on finally doing it man! I was watching your other thread detailing your misery of trying to fix it and figure it out! Bravo
riboflavin 05-19-2007, 04:55 AM Nice job!

Nick06tC 05-19-2007, 07:35 AM Ok a few questions. Does this just delete the light, or does it solve the problem? Is it the same fix on tCs with out the side airbags?
SF2K4 05-19-2007, 04:23 PM Ok a few questions. Does this just delete the light, or does it solve the problem? Is it the same fix on tCs with out the side airbags?
This tricks the system into thinking that the side airbag is still attached thus "fixing" the system (meaning the bags will deploy). The resistors being only 1/2 watt will simply burn up in the event of a deployment.
If you don't have the side airbags you shouldn't have this problem IF you reattach all the other things (seat belt harnesses/sensors). If you don't hook up the stock seat belt equipment then you will get the SRS light again. However, I do not have a fix for that as my Corbeau brackets have a mounting spot for the stock belt attachments (thus I could hook up the rest of the wires).

but the sensor for the stock seats are inside of the seats, and you would have to cut the seats open to get it out. then cut open your corbeaus to reattach the sensor. i am currently running a 5pt harness, so my air bag light is on, and i wont use the stock seat belt cause i dont wanna tamper with taking out the sensors from the stock seats.
any advise on that?
oh, and good job!

You mean the passenger side sensor? That reads whether or not someone is in the seat? You just pull the seat cover up a bit (the back cover) and you can slide your hand in to pull the sensor loose from the foam and then just pull it out. I pulled mine out and zip-tied the sensor's so that it always reads a passenger. Didn't want to put them in the new seats so this way I just ignore the blinking light (no biggy) and if someone is in the seat I'm good to go.
BrEaK_AwaY 05-22-2007, 12:47 AM i meen the stock seats in general. so you can rip out the sensors in both the seats that easy? are the sensors just in the back portion of the seat (meaning where your back rest), or in the butt section of the seat? i might have to take a look at my seats and reconnect my air bags if thsi works out well

Pull up the seatback cover so that you can get the sensors out from on TOP of the seat cushion foam. When you unplug the sensor you'll see ribbon wire going into the foam, just follow it and you'll figure it out. That's the passenger's side. The driver's side doesn't have those sensors, it has a magnetic seat-position sensor that you just stick to your new mounting bracket.
BrEaK_AwaY 05-22-2007, 01:11 PM iight kool. next time i go to my grandparents house (where my stock seats are), ill check it out and hopefully get my air bags working again.
thanks man
giftednimrod 05-22-2007, 02:11 PM its exactly like those "OMG 20HP CHIP $5" on ebay. they follow the same idea.. pretend something is plugged into your o2 sensor when there really isn't.
trialsindude 05-22-2007, 02:52 PM except for this "chip" doesn't give you 20hp. stupid.
google up resistor mod and air bags and read up before you make a stupid comment.
1_kLEan_tC 08-27-2007, 03:05 AM Hello,
I have been reading this thread and others and I'm confused...I think...but
On the driver side seat...All you need to do is plug in the black wire on the seat plug.
On the passenger side seat: you need to do the resistor mod and pull out the clear senor out and the put into new seat..
Please correct if I'm wrong..I want to get this right...
Keeshwah 08-27-2007, 03:26 AM lol, when reading this all could think of was "sweet a way to turn that damn light off if i get new seats".
1_kLEan_tC 08-31-2007, 07:42 AM I did this and it didnt work...
trialsindude 08-31-2007, 06:44 PM Make sure its a 5ohm resistor, or 2 10ohm resistor and wire the 2 10s in parallel. Make sure the resistor is all the way in the YELLOW plug. I did it and it works fine for my car.

Well I tried it with two 10ohm resistors.....if I were to use 5ohm resistor do I need four resistors...
imagin 09-01-2007, 12:11 AM We need to email TRD and tell them there is an interest in swapping out the seats. TRD makes a airbag light delete for their cars in japan that run the TRD seats. Be worth it to get them to do it here

1 5ohm resistor per plug. You can use any amount of resistors...but make sure the final value will equal to 5ohms

ahh....I will do that once I can get home and back to my car....thanks man. I feeling a dumbass
trialsindude 09-03-2007, 05:20 AM And its the yellow plug FYI!!!
BrEaK_AwaY 09-04-2007, 05:16 PM scott.... i might need you to help me out with this since you got yours to work fine. =]
trialsindude 09-04-2007, 07:17 PM hahaah, whenever let me know....
1_kLEan_tC 09-05-2007, 01:05 AM Well,
Im screwed because I tired pulling out the passenger senor form them bottom and not its ripped. I tired putting back together and i it didnt work. So I'm fu@ked! Also, 5ohm resistor didn't work because the senor in passagner seat doesnt work.
I tired to make it work but I failed...I'm just going to find way a to seal this sensor from another tC something like that! maybe a new tC or wrecked one. I was also told that even with light the air can still deploy. So I'm not to worried about it.

dodaddy 07-27-2008, 10:01 AM does anyone have the pictures saved? looking to get my new seats in next week!
Kanchi 07-28-2008, 01:04 AM 05 & 06 are different! 07+ have 4 sensors on the passenger seat! Which year is this for?
dodaddy 07-28-2008, 06:13 AM if anyone has pictures for 06 to install, could you please post?
Need4Bass05 08-10-2008, 11:21 PM bump for re post of pics, I've got my seats coming in this week and could use the pics as a reference.
yellowxhoodie 08-12-2008, 04:35 PM yea, pics arent workin for me either.
fujita_TC 08-13-2008, 04:56 AM i wanna do mine too the airbag light is scaring me...i need airbags for safety...
2006xtC 09-14-2008, 10:42 AM Just another bump requesting you repost the pics. I don't see a yellow plug so I'm wondering if mine may be a different configuration. Thanks for the help.
jurassic1 09-14-2008, 09:22 PM Lol! No need for pics. :P
2006xtC, if you don't have the seat airbags then you won't have the yellow plugs. You'd only have for the seatbelt, passenger sensors, and the driver seat position sensor. Just take out the passenger occupant sensors and the driver seat position sensor, then re-plug everything back.
I had the seat airbags on my car. So when I changed both seats in mine I just did the resistor bypass. Voila! No srs light.
Again, disconnect your batt first before tinkering w/ the airbags peeps!
2006xtC 09-16-2008, 11:01 AM Ahhh... yes, I fail. Thanks for solution jurassic1, I think I should be able to handle that.
fujita_TC 09-26-2008, 06:41 AM I still can't figure out mine I don't have the yellow plug. And I noticed that the passenger and driver plugs are different now I niticed that I have a plug where there's nothing to plug into or the other way around nuthing to plug in don't remember.
jurassic1 09-26-2008, 03:18 PM Oh we both have '07. Good. Where is your "mystery" plug located? Driver's or passenger's?
If you don't have the seat airbags, the driver's seat will have the position sensor and the seatbelt sensor plugs. For the passenger seat, it will have the seatbelt sensor plug and the four (4) passenger occupant sensors (4 plugs that connect onto one module under the seat, which then connects via one plug/harness towards the srs module).
iocca 11-24-2008, 11:42 PM since i am a mpron when it comes to this kind of stuff, and there aren't any pictures, ill post my own and ask questions, i couldn't find 5 ohm 1/2w resistors, so i got 10 ohm 1/2 watts. now, which way do i need to do them, or does it not matter (note the stripes going different directions on the first one)?

BlkTC 01-27-2009, 09:46 AM sticky please...
dodaddy 01-28-2009, 04:17 AM My airbag light went away when I made the magnet stick to my new seat bracket, i didnt modify any plugs
Ro_Ja 02-15-2009, 05:24 AM Sparknotes:
1. Getting a bucket seat for driver's side only. The passenger seat will NOT be replaced.
2. Side and leg bolsters are too large for use of stock seat belt system.
3. Will get a Takata harness.
Now here's the problem. I've done a lot of reading, but either it wasn't clear to me or pictures were missing, but I want to know EXACTLY how to make sure the airbags work when I replace the drivers seat ONLY. If I'm in an accident, I want to be sure they properly deploy. And I do have the SRS airbag package in my 07 tC if that makes any difference. Thanks in advance!
SF2K4 02-15-2009, 05:42 AM Hey guys... miss me? :P
I don't have the pics anymore but I'll try and describe this so it makes sense... if it doesn't let me know and I'll try to get pics again...
1. Get 2 10 ohm resistors.
2. Put them parallel to eachother (on top of eachother with the leads running in the same direction).
3. Take one of the resistors and wrap it's left lead around the other's left lead and repeat with the right side.
4. Bend the leads from the non-wrapped resistor into a U shape and insert into the yellow airbag slot (after you removed the part that was attached to the seat).
Does that make sense?
Ro_Ja 02-15-2009, 05:47 AM Thanks. Could you post the pictures? It would be extremely helpful if possible. I definitely don't want to mess this up.
DonNguyen 03-24-2009, 07:23 PM bump for pics
davedavetC 04-08-2009, 02:42 PM i wonder if something similar to this would work for the steering wheel airbag
CarbonXe 04-08-2009, 02:44 PM I'll try to take pictures when I install my seats.
SilverCFtC 06-09-2009, 04:07 AM Has anyone found a way to make the 4 passenger side sensors work with aftermarket seats on an 07? Or a good way to override them? I pulled all four out of the OEM Seat. They appear to be strain gauges, so I threw a bunch of zip ties around them, but that's not doing the trick. I'm gonna go PM TcPete.....

gotta squeeze them just a bit with chanel lock pliers to close the circuit and then run 3 large zip ties around them, then the resistor in the yellow plug......your seatbelt will buzz when you start the car cause it thinks there is a person in the seat with no belt on......it can be silenced using the easteregg to turn it off......but every time you unhook battery it will come back to stock settign.........

oo0oolala 07-22-2009, 09:07 AM I having problems with my stock seats. For some reason I'm still getting the airbag light but I believe I plugged everything right. If anyone can explain what im missing. I have an 07, passenger has 5 sockets, 1 black, 3 white and a yellow. The only one I can actually plug with the seat is the yellow which I did but the light is still on. Same as the driver but it has 4 sockets I think and yellow is also plugged. Any suggestions? Hope Its fixable.
SilverCFtC 07-22-2009, 02:13 PM I believe the yellow is just the Seatbelt warning light. The other plugs are for the airbag sensors, if you are installing your stock seats, what happened to your other plugs?
To respond to my earlier post, I won't be fixing the airbag thingie to work with the corbeau seats, my fiancée is pregnant, so I'm going back to stock seats for easier back seat access.

Anything wrapped in yellow insulation is airbag related. The yellow harness is for the airbag, there are no airbag sensors in your seat. The driver seat has a position sensor, seat belt sensor and airbag connector. The passenger seat has 4 weight senors, seat belt sensor and airbag connector.
oo0oolala 07-22-2009, 03:37 PM That's the problem I can't find the seat belt sensor on both dri:pass. I have the part that you screw unto the seats and it has 3 harnesses but I can't find where to plug them. 2 white and 1 black fr passenger
this is the passenger. the driver has only 1 white

CSOCSO 12-14-2009, 07:08 AM yaaaay... the i kan see da pics!!!
i will try it but where is this stuff goes in to? goes into the driver side seat position sensor plug?
CSOCSO 12-19-2009, 07:59 AM YAAAAAY!!! my airbag light is GONE!!! so i got 05 tc and under the driver seat there are 3 different connectors.
i have celica seat and the biggest connector matched up easily. the other connector did not match up but it has only two wire so i cut them and soldered them together but there was another wire which was connected to the seat position sensor... well.. i couldnt to nothing with it. i was pretty sure i cant use that on the celica seat so i just cut the wire and had the airbag light problem since...
not i just took off that sensor and installed it back and just left it hang under the seat and now my airbag sensor light is GOOOOONE :D
willy213 04-25-2010, 04:29 AM Damn... I was really looking forward to reading this, but no pics.
Old_S-Cool 09-04-2010, 06:20 AM i wanna do mine too the airbag light is scaring me...i need airbags for safety...
LOL! Dam, man! look at my list of cars in the sig...only 1 of them has airbags!
Most of the time I don't use a seat belt; the Mazda has automatics and the Supra when I drive with the roof off.
But it is unnverving, isn't it? I just installed a Celica seat in the tC to see if it was more comfortable, but I'm still too close to the pedals.
What I'm trying to figure out is WHERE on the harness ('05) to pluyg in the resistor!
Chrisb319 09-24-2010, 10:43 PM I'm stuck
my passengers seat has a black box that is connected to 4 sensors on each corner of the seat. How do I get these out?
Just to make sure i'm following along correctly resistor trick goes on the plug under the drivers seat?
I have an 07.
another question
where is the passengers seat sensor inside the seat? is it on the bottom foam or the back portion where you lay your back I can't find it. Is it the black wire that runs down the middle?
jarvasdb1 10-14-2010, 09:55 AM After reading all 4 pages it seems like I just got more confused the more I read. I think it would be very helpful for those who figured it out, contribute by adding pictures and modifying the tech write up if needed to help further describe the tutorial. I have a 2009 and am pretty sure I'm equipped with bags in the seats. I also know being a former car audio installer that the newer the vehicle the more sensors there are. Now I know that's only generically true, meaning it's not always the case but it's safer to assume so. Thanks in advance.
allenxtc 10-27-2010, 09:21 AM Thanks for great write up!
allenxtc 12-06-2010, 08:52 PM op, I tried it today, but it didnt work. I bought 4 10ohm resistors and followed the steps u illustrated. I have a 2010 tc, will it be different or harder to fix the light? Thx
