They don't make much off the Scion line. I'm working on getting a tC Spec atm but its a waiting game cuz it's hard to find one in BSP. If you want the accessories DO NOT buy them when you get the car during the financing stage. Wait til AFTER you buy the car and have it in your hands or else all the accessories you buy will be financed in with the rest of the car meaning extra money you need to come up with. The price don't change no matter when you buy it, and install the parts yourself, you'll save more money.

and no, its not $810 less... atleast for my dealership. but i can assure you we dont make much off scions.
I bet they really don't make a lot of money on the Scions. I went to several dealers, and they almost all gave me the same cost. But as my dad taught me, everything is negotiable.
I was able to get them throw in an after-market remote start option, and refund me $200 in doc fees. 1 dealer charged $599 in doc fees, and another charged $399. So they are sending me a check for $450 for both. Plus it was the same place that had the lifetime powertrain warranty. I also got a little bit better financing rate (only came down .2 %, but it was something), and got a better deal for the maintenance package (there's money in that too). Also, I got the wing spoiler and interior light kit at dealer cost.
Just make sure you do your homework for dealer costs and prices on nada.com and edmunds.com.
They are supposedly "pure priced", but there's always room to haggle.
Just not as much as on other cars. But again, as my dad taught me...Never pay sticker price, or if you do, make sure you get a lot for it.
Remember, ask a for a lot. And never feel guilty about getting as much from the dealer as possible. They won't sell you a car that they don't make money on, or helps them hit their target goal with Toyota on.

Spitfire23 you are incorrect. and so is your dad with the scion purchase. there is to be NO haggling. pure price means menu price. meaning dealers CAN charge a different amount for the cars and accessories, though most just use scions suggested prices. If the dealer gave you a discount on a scion accessory, the car, or anything scion related, that is NOT allowed, and that dealer can get into trouble if cought by toyota. so you got lucky with your dealer, and they put their ***** on the line to get you the car.
and to refer to your quote: "Remember, ask a for a lot. And never feel guilty about getting as much from the dealer as possible. They won't sell you a car that they don't make money on, or helps them hit their target goal with Toyota on."
are you serious? give me a break man. do you go to work for free? i doubt it. i doubt you have ever been in car sales, and have no idea how the business works. you wouldnt believe how many deal's are made that end up being losers (meaning no money or very little money was made). and you say we wont sell a car we dont make money one? i can prove that statement otherwise (on the front end). Everyone see's the sales person as the bad guy who is lieing... when their are alot of good sales people (such as myself and a few others on the SL.com boards) that are very honest and willing to help, but the customer still thinks that the sales person is lieing.
but again, if you feel like going to work for free, and not having money to put food in your mouth cause you get a customer that "isnt supposed to feel guilty about getting a free car and stiffing the salesperson". by all means, be that guy.
end rant

Breakaway, I'm not going to get into a ____ing match with you on this. I'm just sharing my views and experiences on the car buying process. But do you really think a car dealer would put their **** on the line for little ole me? Would you???
(I know I wouldn't) I don't think I got "lucky". I just was prepared by researching a lot on edmunds.com and nada.com. Great resources for people unsure of a sticker price or dealer cost.
I don't view car salesmen as the bad guy, esp not from a Toyota dealership. They are professionals, and treat people that way. (at least the ones I've dealt with before) I have no negative views of them. I'm just trying to get the best deal I can on the car.
I am in sales (not car sales though), so yes you are correct that I don't know how "the business" works. I just know how sales in general works, and how business works. Question... I want a car. Should I try to pay as little or as much for it I can?
You go to work to make money, right? Then why (so you claim) are so many deals "losers"?
How ever in the world do you make money then? (Hmmm, maybe sell other cars to other people at higher costs?) It sounds like to me you don't go to work to make money if you make so many "loser" deals.
Why should I feel guilty about getting as much as I can from a deal? Believe me, if they didn't want to sell it to me for all of those extras, they can always say no. I didn't force them to say yes when I asked for all of the extras.
Should I feel guilty about getting so much? NO WAY. That's called being a smart shopper. I understand that you don't want me to post things like this, b/c you are a car salesman. But again, I'm simply sharing my views and experiences on my car buying history.
Also, I have no idea what your point was about "but again, if you feel like going to work for free, and not having money to put food in your mouth cause you get a customer that "isnt supposed to feel guilty about getting a free car and stiffing the salesperson". by all means, be that guy." When did I say that I wanted to work for free? I'm sorry, but am I reading the same post you are? I am the guy that wants to pay as little as I can for a car so I can have money to put food in my mouth. Why do you hate the smart shoppers? (cuz you don't make money off of us)
(sorry, but I had to pee a bit there)

no, i LIKE educated buyers who know what they want, and what they are getting. but in the car business, the number of units moved can mean more then the gross held back at times, which is why their are "loser deals". Their are alot of people whp try to get the best deal, and why wouldnt you? But their are some people that dig and dig and dig for the best deal, and every now and then (seems like it in your case) the sales person / manager gives in to move a unit. now what does that do to the salesmens commission? they will typically get a "mini", which is the minimun amount you will be paid for moving a unit. In cases like that, the dealer made little to no money on the front end.
and should you feel guilty for stealing money away from the sales person, i think so (and i say this as a buyer and a salesmen). why? because i wouldnt go to your place of business, and demand that you sell me your product at cost, and throw in some extra goodies. and if you dont, we dont have a deal, and i wont purchase it. an example would be if i were to go to wal-mart with 5 items, and demand to pay for 4 of them at wal-marts cost, and ask for the 5 item free because i am buying it from them instead of target. so your basically "stealing" money from the company, or in this case, the salesperson and the manager.
as far as getting good info on edmonds and nada, i agree, they are good sites to research, but they are NOT the most accurate. their "invoice" prices are not that accurate, as well as other information.
and your clapping cause you dontthink tis fair for the salesmen to make money off you? and i quote: "Why do you hate the smart shoppers? (cuz you don't make money off of us)". Again, most sales people work off commission, and commission only. So their only income is from the person buying the car from them, and you think its fair to rob them of their income to provide for their families? Im not saying to pay 2K over sticker to give them some more profit, but be reasonable. You dont work for free, and neither do we.

I appreciate your concern and input. I just simply have a different view of it. I wish you wouldn't refer to it as stealing, because there is nothing illegal I am doing. In my case, maybe they did give in (I'm a great negotiator), but I feel no guilt in getting the best deal. If he didn't want to give in, he could have always said no. I've heard it before, and simply tried at another place. If everyone said no, then I'd be the one who felt stupid for even asking. But since they said yes, I feel great cuz I saved a bunch of money.
We have people all the time try to demand a price to us. I check and see if it's a good deal or not. If it's below what we paid, or if I don't feel like selling it to them at that cost, I simply say "I'm sorry, but I cannot go that low" and make a counter offer.
My business is similar in that people come to us for prices and products. They have several choices (meaning we have several competittors, local and abroad). Sometimes I move, sometimes I don't. But I'll never go below our cost unless it's a customer accomodation, or a mistake I made. I've said no enough times, that we still do great business here. No one steals from our company, unless a mistake is made on our part. People can and do make demands for pricing all the time with us. If it's a good deal, whether it be minimal commission or maximum commission, then I'll accept. If it's too low, then again, I'll pass. Customers never determine the cost of something, we do. They can demand all they want, but until they stop buying, we won't stop selling it for what we want. Note that we work off of commission solely. So if I move off of a cost, then it directly affects the money in my pocket. Hence, many times I'll pass. One thing I've learned in sales is that, if someone wants something enough, then they'll buy it, no matter the cost (to a certain extent) Sometimes you've just got to say no.
If you had your choice of paying an extra $2k or not paying an extra $2k, wouldn't you choose not to pay. The most guilt I felt in the whole process was that the tC's are 100% made in Japan (parts & production). I know the xA and xB aren't the same.
All I did was ask for a better price. If they said no, then you know what, I still would have bought it, but since they said yes, then that's extra money for me. That loss in money would have been avoided if they simply said no. Since when is asking considered stealing? If it comes down to giving you $500 or giving me $500, I'm going to choose me. Actually it's like $550 to $500 with financing involved. It's not stealing, it's shopping smart.
I wasn't clapping to insult you or salesmen (I appologize if it came across that way). It was meant to emphasize my point of me being a smart shopper.
I again, have nothing agaisnt the salesmen or saleswomen. They were outstanding. (as you very well may be). I just simply asked for more, and they simply said OK. If they said no, then they still would have had my business, b/c I fell in love with the wonderful tC.
Dang I write too much. sorry Does anyone else agree with me, or am I off base with this? (non-salesmen please)

I understand what you are saying, and agree with you to a degree. I do not know what you sell, but i agree that if it was my company, i wouldnt wanna sell items (in my case cars) for as cheap as we do sometimes. but when you have alot of competition, and need to move units, some times you have too =\
when i was ready to purchase, i called around the state looking for the "best price" on my car, but every place was almost exactly the same. i negotiated pretty hard for a lower price at three or four places -- just to see if it was possible -- but got flat out denied every time.
i ended up going with the dealer that waived their fees (about $600) and quoted pure pricing. the fact that it was a cute southen chick on the phone helped that particularr dealer's cause, lol.

There are way to many reality shows on cable these days that tell all of us consumers how to haggle to the best possible price. Scion states Pure Price ( no haggle) but it also gives dealership room to change price. If the dealer orders to many cars and has no room for more and has to discount cars then I think you need to take that up with your boss not the consumer who is trying to get the best possible deal on a large purchase.
Ah ha! Maybe they didn't cut me a special deal, and they just waived some fees but never told me.
So either way, I saved money, and didn't steal. I asked for better prices, and they must have waived other fees to accommodate me. So I simply saved a good amount of money and didn't steal. Did I mention that there was no stealing of any kind when I asked for a better price? And so nooone needs to feel sorry for the salesman. They still make money. And even if they didn't make as much as they wanted, why do I care? It's my money, not theirs. I choose where to spend it. (well actually my wife does)
