Default Help with new speakers

I recently had two coaxial speakers installed in the front of my tc. i left the tweeters hooked up just to see how it sounds, now i don't want them (too much trebble)

when i try to unhook the tweeter i lose sound in that speaker...what do i need to do?

btw i tried searching for this problem in many different ways and could not find anything

thanks in advance

I don't remember the speakers being wired in "series", but you could simply short the tweeter's wires together.

Cut the four wires (2 different colors) going into the tweeter and splice them together matching like colors. Should end up with 2 wires each door.

Colors are:
Pink and Purple on driver door
Green and Blue on passenger door.

These are the speaker + and - wires.

thanks for the advice

does it matter that my amp (2 ch) is only going to my coaxial speakers?

Huh? As opposed to being connected to what other speakers instead or in addition to the fronts? What do you mean? It's fine for a 2ch amp to power front coax speakers, but what's best for you depends on the rest of your system, and I don't know what that consists of.

Right - that would be parallel wiring between the tweeter and 6.5". If you disconnect the tweeter, the 6.5" should still be wired to the head unit - making splicing the wires unneeded. This is why I'm confused, and the only explanation I can think of is the two speakers (tweeter + 6.5") being wired in series.

It's been too long since I've looked at the doors, and don't remember how Scion wired them, but I'd be very surprised if it wasn't the way you described.

They are wired in series in stock form. The "crossover" is part of the tweeter assembly.

The speaker wires from the headunit are connected first to the factory tweeter, then to the mid-range. So if you disconnect the tweeter, you have disconnected all the wires.

2_tc has it right.

Don't you guys mean to say the woofer & tweeter and wired in parallel, rather than in series? Just because they go to the tweeter and then the woofer, that doesn't necessarily imply "series" wiring.

If the positive (+) wire from the HU/Amp goes to the positive terminal on the tweeter, and then on to the positive terminal of the woofer, that's parallel wiring, with the speakers in phase. If the positive (+) wire from the head unit goes to the positive terminal on the tweeter, and then on to the negative terminal of the woofer, that's parallel wiring, with the speakers out of phase.

The only way they could be wired in series would be if there was one wire connected only between opposite polarity terminals of the woofer & tweeter, with the remaining terminal of each driver connected to the HU/Amp.

I haven't replaced my stock speakers yet, so I don't know for certain which way they're wired, although I'm fairly confident they're actually in parallel, not series. I guess you're using the term to imply they're wired "one after the other", but that's misleading when discussing wiring speakers.

Now if you guys are saying they're actually wired in series as opposed to parallel, I'd really like to know, so please clarify.

Yea, this is what I meant. Sorry for the confusion, been a while since I had electronics classes.
