Default Smart cars in the US in '08

Well, what does everybody think? Has anyone driven one? (Canada?)

I'm definately interested. I've always been a sucker for quirky small rides.

Somebody had pictures of one on the streets of LA already. We will all be looking for one when gas hits $5.00 a gallon.....

They've been importing them into Canada for a year now. I'd bet some have been driven into the states.
They had a report on them on the NBC news last night.

I live in pembroke pines florida, i live near hollywood scion, close to maroone honda and hollywood scion there is a small house looking dealership( i guess its a dealership) sellin these cars, although i dont know if theyre Smart cars but they have a mercedes emblem in the front and look nearly identical, they look pretty cool, but not pretty fast!! if it was 5,000 i could justify buying one, any more then that, and there is no point

Went to a Smart test drive event and it pretty much made up my mind as to what my next car purchase will be. Those things are TINY, but they feel extremely solid inside and as roomy as a regular car.

I don't like em. 1. Way to small 2. Ugly 3. Were not gettin the diesel. As long as ditzy soccermoms r driving Suburbans I would never get in one of those as that's an instant death sentence. My biggest peeve is that we r not gettin the diesel so there is no point in buying one anyway. The diesel is what gets the crazy gas mileage n without it the car has nothing goin for it. Also I hear the prices on those cars r going to be crazy high, most likely I can get a fully loaded corolla for the same $$. So really if u buy one ur buying it for the novelty, that's it.

O and doesn't Mercedes Benz make these things? That's another reason not to get it.

If they would drop the price to at least ~$7.5k, with those standard safety features equipped, I would consider this as a second vehicle to my tC. But at $12k, it's just not worth the price, if you ask me.

The dealership I work for can get a customer a Smart Car if they'd like. We deal with a rental car company that has a few in their fleet. The owner of the place brought one over to the dealership for us to check out. Amazingly small...

We had one for sale in Panama City at a dealer down the road last year or so: $28,000 price tag.

<-- Thinks he'll pass.

they will start out at 11k. 13k for a/c and whatnot, then 17k for the cabrio. Yeah you can get actual cars for those prices but the ability to park ANYWHERE will be priceless.

Mercedes is loosing money hand over fist on these cars---it will take an Asian version to get the price down.

Then again, mercedes has enough $$$ to cover the losses, I could seriously see these all over the place in a couple years... esp if there is a hybrid version in the works.

a hybrid version would cost too much, and the milage on them as it is surpasses most anything out there..

matching pretty much current hybirds

Mercedes has been losein money for awhile now. Ever since they decided they wanted to become technological leaders in the auto industry their products have become such cr@p.

U don't need a hybrid version if the EPA ***** lighten up with the emissions. The diesel version that we will not be sold here gets 71mpg. http://www.autoblog.com/2007/06/11/7...i-in-pictures/

Not sure where you're seeing Smart cars for 11k, but they've been selling them in Milwaukee for a few months now, and they start around 25k. Not cheap for them little things. Still cool, though

wth r u ppl talking about parking for???? the USA is HUGE the lanes are HUGE the parking spots are HUGE. Yes sure maybe in some cities on the week-end nights u get a lil crowded.

these work in EU because of space constraints. But here.....as one of you said I believe it will only be to "look different".
