the top half was done using Testors Transparent Candy APPLE RED ... and the bottom half was done using nightshades ... and then the whole thing was clear coated
what do you guys think ?
2tone_xB 09-21-2004, 04:37 PM I like. Did it yourself? Not too familiar with the products to do that so yeah.
Good job though.
the_saint 09-21-2004, 05:22 PM Niteshades huh? I wonder what the shelf life on that stuff is? I've got a can from back around '95 or so still sitting in my garage.

yeah i did it myself .. really not hard at all .. just a little time consuming to get it right
irv_usc 09-28-2004, 04:32 PM testors is model paint.. what is nightshades?
btw the testors will at most last 3 years. this is from experience on an old car.
Soon2BxB 09-29-2004, 05:26 AM nightshades is smoked paint in a can .... transparent smoke paint ... they sell it at speed shops
and as for the testors lasting 3 years.. thats fine ... it only took 1 day to do both taillights... so i dont mind redoing em again assuming i even still have the car
but its a nice mod and its cheap at only 11 for a can of nightshades.. that is easily enough to do 2-3 sets of tails and 4 for the testors paint :)
chucksu 09-29-2004, 06:13 PM Nice looking tail lights you got.
Milhamscion 09-29-2004, 06:24 PM Looks nice. I think it is worth it even if it only last a year or two.
BlueBox 09-29-2004, 06:33 PM Although it's hard to see the quality of paint from the pix above...
here's few pix of the "Real" Nish Candied tail lights.
Gary Nish paints these with high quality automotive paint with clear coat as well... these are made to last almost the life the car. It's high quality work... and looks factory.

Soon2BxB 09-29-2004, 07:51 PM wow those look great :) ... cant say that mine are THAT nice .. but they are damned near close to it :) .. then again i paid 13 .. lol ..
how much does NISH charge for the paint service
one great thing about doing your tails like his or mine . it REALLY sets you apart from the rest of the crew... i mean how many boxes do you see with the TYCs or stockers... then add up how many you see with painted tails :) it makes a world of difference in seperating you from the crowd
hotbox05 09-30-2004, 02:20 AM i bought the night shades at the only place in sac that has them (also the most expensive speed shop in sac) and it was only 7.99 . i tinted my whole tails and then used red bulb covers for the turn signals so i am very happy tinted and red flashers
2tone_xB 09-30-2004, 03:37 PM I really wanna get mine candy coated. I just dont want to use my stock ones.
Any way I can buy another set of tails with them coated already? From who, where, and price? Like Nish. Forgot where the post was but I called a certain # in Cali that does smoked tails. Its either you ship a new set or your stock ones and they'll do it for $150. I was like...uhh...
Typical price or what? I'm interested. If anything, that will be next for me. Thanks.

DenZinz 10-13-2004, 01:35 AM Looks nice. I think it is worth it even if it only last a year or two.
We did it on my buddies civic, clear coat and all, and it faded and lost its sheen in 4 months.
Soon2BxB 10-13-2004, 04:50 AM they are temporary anyways :)
we are in the process of cracking up the stock tails and installing full led clusters ;)
How much does Nish charge?
tcm_xB 10-17-2004, 01:37 PM Does anyone know the steps that were taking to paint BlueBox's tails? My bro just started painting and is willing to paint my tails. I need to know the steps for painting the tails. Also, what kind of paint are you guys using?
Thanks!!
2tone_xB 10-18-2004, 02:58 PM All those questions about paint and the steps should be in the tech section?
Soon2BxB - if you ever get rid of those red/smoked tails, notify me. :D

I'm trying to figure this out too. Blue's tails are the ____. I just am not willing to pay $150 for them, plus I insist on the DIY. I bought some stained glass paint, but the tests didnt come out how I thought they would. So I scrapped it.
Plus the winters here are harsh, and the salt might not mix well with these paints.
