Default Uh-Oh!!! Bad gas mileage??

Ok, I have a manual 06 xb, and I usually get 29-30 mpg....driving her hard.

I was rear ended and thrown up a curb and into a wall in November (Long story short, the guy that rearended me is an **** and got away with it, so I have to pay for it all). In late April, my AC compressor blew up (keep in mind I still haven't had enough money to fix my car in the first place, so now this is just adding to something I can't afford.)

And lately, I've been hearing something (don't know if I just haven't noticed it before or if there's something wrong with my car.) and it sounds like either valve noise or an exhaust leak...I checked the oil, and that's fine, so I'm thinking it's an exhaust leak...and I haven't had time to check her out.

But now, I just filled up today and I got HORRIBLE GAS MILEAGE!!!! I got 26 mpg....and I was trying to drive soft and nice to see how much I could get! What is wrong here? I drive her hard and I get good gas mileage, and I drive her nice and smooth and I get bad gas mileage! Is my car trying to tell me something? No, just kidding, but seriously...what's wrong with my car? If I had an exhaust leak, and it was bad, would my O2 sensors be reading wrong, and that is the reason for my terrible gas mileage????

Please help a girl in need!

I would think with all the other damage that mpgs would be the least of your worries. I feel sad for all the xB's that get treated so rough.

I'm sorry if you think I treat my car "rough", but I don't. Ask Mightygnu....I treat my car with so much respect and love. I do everything I possibly can for my car. And if you want to get into the fact that my car is damaged....lets see how you feel when you are a college student that can barely afford food, and some d!ck head gets away with f@cking up your car and you get stuck with the $6000 worth of damage. I'm sorry but my car is my life, and you kinda hit a soft spot, hard.

I never said it was you directly that treated it rough. If are having trouble feeding yourself why have a new car? As far as the damage goes you have a 6K deductible to get it repaired??? Also, why drive it around with damage. Get some estimates for your insurance. Have them cut you a check for the repair and get it into a collision shop. DUN!

Yes, usually after 10K they loosen up more and become more efficient. Usually up to about 3 mpg better.

Oh really? I only have 8k. I don't drive much!!

And the car is paid in full, so it's not like I'm still making payments. And besides, my dad won't let me get a used car....he wants me to have the security of having the warranty. Smart man.

And also, I would go through insurance, and I am trying to, but my deductable is $1000, and I am trying and trying to get there, and once I get there, it will be fixed, but until then, I have to drive around in a broken car. I have no choice, I have to get to school and work somehow.

If I don't drive my car, I won't be able to get to work, so I won't have money to fix my car, so I won't be able to drive it....it's a vicious cycle. I have had my car for almost a year now, and I only have 8k miles....that just shows you how little I drive my car. So.....DUN!

Please get off my back, I am getting sick of it. You are a really nice guy usually, but today you are really in a bad mood. Waste it on someone else.

How do you pay in full for your car but have such a high deductable? That makes no sense.
Also you should not have to pay the duductable because it was hit and run. It should be waived.
Also how do you pay in full for a new car then can't afford food and living expences???
Too many things that just do not add up!!!
I'm truely sorry for your situation but it is very strange.

Why would you drive a damaged car around and risk additional damages because you can't afford a rental while it's being fixed? Then come on here for advise then not want to take it. VERY STRANGE way of doing things!!!
This whole mess is making my head hurt now I'm dun. Good luck!

BTW, I'm NOT in a bad mood. I just have very little tollerance for things that don't add up. I always do as much as I can to help people but I can't force you to do what needs to be done.

Buying a car and insurance are two seperate things. What I was meaning to say (maybe you misunderstood) is that my car was paid for in cash. Done. I didn't finance it. I have a high deductable because that's the insurance plan I have. It makes sense.

It was not a hit and run. The guy that hit me pulled over and gave me his info, but I didn't take pictures of the accident, so when it came time to go through insurance to get my money, he gave my insurance a picture of his undamaged front bumper (it was an older F150 with a solid chrome front bumper.....that vs. a Scion? Who do you think would win. The truck of course.) and told my insurance that the only reason that I have his info is because he pulled over as a witness.....well ain't he nice? Jerk. My insurance for some reason believed him and left the case.

I got accepted into a University, so my dad bought me the car. I am not spoiled in any way, but that was his deal, and that's how it went. He got me the car so I could get to and from school and work. That's how it was paid in full. I can afford food, and gas, but nothing else, I am on a very tight budget...that's what I'm saying.

These things DO add up.

Thank you for being sorry, it does suck. And what hurts more is when someone tries to yell at you and add to the hurt.

I can't get a rental car, I'm only 18, for an Enterprise car, you have to be 21, for all the other companies, you have to be 22.

What advise did you give me? None. You just tried to make me look stupid to make yourself feel better.

Take some asprin if your head hurts.

And it is spelled D-O-N-E.....I don't know if your last name is "Dun" and you are just trying to tell me your name, but why would you be trying to tell me your name?

Luck does nothing, but thanks anyway.

I realize you are young and I want to help but I can't force you to do what needs to be done. Plus the longer you wait the harder it will be to get it all straight. It also doesn't help trying to be a smart a$$.

1. Why would a "witness" give you his insurance info?
2. Your insurance company works for you not for him so why would they believe him over you???
3. You do have a police report right?

I also meant "LOANER CAR" not rental. Most collision shops have loaner cars for their customes to use while the work gets done.

Oh and I guess you've never heard of done being spelled dun. It's a southern thing sorry.

Sorry, but a witness doesn't give someone his insurance info. The insurance company can't be that stupid. Sounds like you need to sue your insurance or the guy that hit you. Did you have a police report made?

How do you figure I'm trying to make you look dumb or me fell better? I only go off of what you told me in your own words. I realize you are young but there are ways to get things DONE. Is that better. It doesn't help trying to be a smart a$$. I realize you are in a bad situation but that is no excuse.

Guess that is what I get for trying to help someone out. I do honestly hope it works out for you but it's not looking good when your insurance company takes the word of a "witness" who you just happen to have his insurance info over their paying customer.

Ok, I'm not trying to be a smart ****...I just thought that you were shooting me down. Let's start fresh.

I didn't take his insurance info. It was my first accident ever, and I did something very stupid, I know. He said that he had just gotten in an accident and that he wanted to write me a check instead, and I for some stupid reason said ok, so I just took his normal info, licence #, address, phone #, licence plate #...etc...(now that I think about it, he probably didn't even have insurance)...and went to the body shop right afterwards. I got the estimate, and called him up and told him, and about a week later, his "attorney" called me and told me that "her client" didn't hit me, and that he was just a witness. So I went through my insurance and blah blah blah you know the story from there. I didn't get a police report, I wish I had. I pull my hair out every night because I didn't get a god damn police report. I am in tears right now because of my f@cking situation. I am sick of it. I just want my f@cking car back!!!! It is so frustrating that f@cking white trash people can get away with so much!! I hate it! I want to go to his house with an axe and see how he likes it! Have him spend my money on something he doesn't want to spend it on. That would make it fair. I hate him. Bruce Dobyns. Jerk. If I EVER see him again, he better run, because I'm so furious that I wouldn't care what I did, I would haze over and take care of the son of a b!tch!!

Whooooo.......sorry, just ranting. I am very mad and sad as you can see.

Now that you know more....what is your advise? I will take it if it is a possibility.

I'm soooo sorry that this happened. My heart goes out to you. This is a hard way to learn a lesson. It's a shame that people treat others like this and I hope you can arrange eventually to get the box fixed up.
Has your Dad offered to help you resolve it with your insurance company? They should still be fixing it after you raise the deductible. But it's been too long ago to have the insurance company go after him for you to reclaim their losses plus the lack of witnesses and police report.
His attorney says he was a witness. A witness to what?
It's gonna be hard to eat that deductible tho but it could have been far worse. You could have gotten hurt but didn't thank God! I'll pray for you dear!

ok first off body shops don't give "loaner cars" you have to get yourself a "rental car" you or the insurance company does this, do you realize how many cars a dealership would have to have insurance on to do a loaner car program? given your average production dealer/bodyshop does between 100 and 300 a month, that means that if you take in 100 customer cars you would need 150 loaner cars

also DUN is a yankee thing, we southerner's generally spell stuff correctly

So Larry the Cable guy spells it "Get It Done" instead of Git-R-Done right ?
It's the Yankees that always spell stuff right due to the higher education level. Please, Here's Your Sign!!!
