I know that this issue has been discussed previously and I have done a search. There were a few posts, but the search function sucks and I'd like to make as many bop owners aware of the problem as possible. I'd like to try to see if it is isolated to bop. If so, maybe we can have the dealerships/Scion deal with the issue if we have a high number of complaints. I'll be contacting my dealership this week.

Thanks for the reply regarding the bop paint problem.
I already have a 05 bop xb (8-11-04) and had noticed
the paint thing before I read your post. I didn't even
need a flashlight to see the teal paint. I noticed it
right away. I assumed all the xb's were like that
(cheap paint job.) And the swirl thing sucks. It seems
more than just the dark color. It seems like the bop
is crappy quality paint compared to the other colors.
Looks like I'm going to have some fun at the
dealership.

I had a 00 Grand Cherokee that was silver and man did
I get spoiled. It never showed dirt. Other than the
paint I'm really happy with my xb.

Yeah, I noticed the color variations, too. Look at the interior side of thehatch around the oval cover - they left off the finish coat so the color is flat and has a rough texture...

To hide the teal effect, I painted my wheelwells with 3M undercoating. Some good stuff but expensive at $6-$7 a can at Autozone. I wanted maximum chip protection in the wells and a little sound deadening couldn't hurt. Took about 1.5 cans to do all four wheelwells.

Fairly simple to mask off the brakes/lines/shock tower etc. The stuff is very directional and goes where you aim it.

I doubt Scion is going to do anything about it... too much $$$ to repaint all the BOP's out there.

They don't clearcoat the inside of any of the colors. I have silver and it's flat and rough inside the back hatch.

FuglyxB, Thanks for the tips on painting the wheel wells. 1.5 cans @ $6-$7 sounds reasonable.

GM repainted our 88 Trans Am after we complained. But they never would have if we and others hadn't brought attention to the problem. If it is a general Scion thing then no use in pursuing it, but if it is a problem specific to bop then it maybe worth looking into.

if they cleared inside the engine bay and fender wells then people would complain that it scratches because they don't take care of it. the dull finish is easier to take care for the common everyday person and that finish is normal on every car. the swirl marks are part of owning a dark color car. they happen on ever car, but they are just more noticeable on dark colors. you just need to wax and take care of the finish more then others. there is really no problem except that the paint does chip easy.

Oh brother.... Learn to take care of your paint and dont worry about it... Spiderwebs are typical on any car, it is just more apparent on dark color cars.

Use plenty of wax safe soap, wash your car in the shade, and use a non abrasive towel and you will be ok..Oh yea, wax and protect your car was recommmended.

As for the lack of clear in the hatch and engine bay, oh well. Look at the saturns, its not even color matched or cleared.. Now that will give you soemthing to complain about!

yeah, my BCP is a little different color too. I think they don't clear OR pearl it.. it's just shot with the base coat of paint. No big deal, this is common.
