Default What clutch for 300+tq?

i wanna know what clutch everyone is running for 300+tq and how do they feel for daily driving.

I'm debating between between the Clutchmasters stage 3, competition clutch stage 3 or the ACT Street Clutch Kit.
But has anyone heard of of the Spec stage 2+ clutch? It's listed as good for 455tq.
And the Spec Stage 2 is listed as good for 400tq and promotiontuning has it for $370.

Can't tell you from driving experience, but I had bought a CM stage 3 for my car before I started my rebuild (never installed it).

Since my rebuild is now way crazier than a 300 whp I had, I got a new one. I went Spec 3+ super clamp after a bunch of researched, it was hard to find a solution with smooth engagment and over 600 ft lbs holding pressure. My only other option would have been a $1400 CM Stage 7 twin disc.

Sorry I can't offer driving experiences though.

Good luck.

Spec has a tendency to way overrate their torque ratings. The Competition Clutch Stage 2 can handle about 350 ft lbs to the wheels no problem. Exedy stage 2 will do so as well.

Do you have experience with this or is this just what you've heard?

Same stated for my clutch as well, but I have a new motor to break in at the same time so it shouldn't be too much of a problem.

Guru:
What clutch are you running and how is the engagement?

Rasta:

i'm pretty sure lots of clutchs have a break-in period, when your tc was new, it needed 1000 miles to break-in. just drive easy for a few days.

Nope, waiting on LSD install before the motor goes back in the car. Then all the fabrication starts. I probably won't be driving on that clutch till the end of the summer.

pretty much any non organic clutch disc will need a break in period...you do not want to glaze the disc and lose any of its clamping force right off the bat...I had the clutchmasters stage 2 kevlar for my supercharged tC and it was a great clutch...only thing is you cant downshift or really get on the car hard for the first 500 miles but well worth the wait...You can knock out 500 miles in a week if you take your car on some nice lengthy lil highway cruises

Well, when they say break in, do they mean just driving, or alot of shifting? I dont' see how just cruizing is breaking in the clutch.

So it seems like most people are leaning towards the ClutchMasters Stage 3?

I hope so, I have one for sale, still in the box. I'll beat any price you can find since I have no need for it. I'd like to get back some of my money.

no hard launches, no banging gears out and no downshifting(which is the hardest part if you ask me...im so used to rev matching when I downshift and to keep myself from doing that was real tedious)

Dyltone:
how much for your CM stage 3?

It looks like it is BARELY rated for over 300. I'd really like to see how that Spec stage 2+ hold up.
rrimportracer is getting the spec stage 2 for his zpi 0 kit. I'd like to see what he says about it, just because I've never even heard of that company before, whereas I've heard of ClutchMasters, ACT, and Competition.

the new spec clutches are suppose to be really good. i've ran there old line and yes they tend to overrate them a bit. as far as the new + line it's totally the opposite. the rep told me the whole clutchhas been redesigned and can handle a ton of power for only being a single disc. there new ratings are actually pretty conservitve.

I've heard the same story, but it's all anecdotal. I haven't heard of anyone actually trying each clutch on some test setup to confirm the #'s Spec (or any other manufacturer for that matter) lists.

My clutch, the Spec 3+ Super Clamp is rated to 627 ft lbs. If that's acurate, it's impressive for a full faced streetable clutch. Especially for the $$ they cost.
