View Full Version : Factory TRD spring
kyleng 05-29-2007, 07:27 AM I just ordered my XB. i m not sure should i get the factory TRD spring that cost $250. anyone knows how much lower it will be ? is $250 include installation ?
Or anyone knows any after market lower spring ? cost ? installation ?
tks
No that does not include installation. When I went to the dealership they showed me a book of the price of the part & installation & I remember price with installation for the springs were like around $525.
randode 05-29-2007, 05:56 PM for that price, get some Goldlines from me, install them yourself, and then take our family out for a nice dinner.
And it will be lower than TRD's.
kyleng 05-29-2007, 09:23 PM dam $525 ? that's crazy, you guys know how lower is the TRD and the Goldlines ? how much does the installation cost, on average ? idk how to do it man -_-

You can buy them from TRD Sparks for about $209.50 or that guy that sells them on eBay his name is Toyotamall1 and I think his shipping might be cheaper.
randode 05-29-2007, 11:57 PM Installation should be less than $60. Anymore than that and ur getting burned.
roXor_boXor 05-30-2007, 12:05 AM Ordered mine from TRD Sparks yesterday (sorry Randode, I was tempted but the land of cheese has roads like Swiss cheese so lower isn't necessarily better here :P ).
I wondered what all the hullabaloo around here was all about with Sparks and found out yesterday.
I sent in my order yesterday morning and got the automated confirmation. Then I got an email from Ken after lunch (on Memorial Day mind you) letting me know that some of the stuff I ordered would be shipped later in the week and some by Wednesday. It was a fairly large order so it was nice that he let me know what was happening. It was crazy to be doing it on a holiday though. Anyway I am impressed so far. :D
bigxbdad 05-30-2007, 12:52 AM The factory trd springs lower the car 3/4 in front and 1 1/2 in rear . I work at a toyo dealer as there installer for add on and up grades. For what you pay it's not alot of drop ,although they do handle better.
XBFred 05-30-2007, 01:13 AM I was thinking the other day, I should raise mine in the back and make it look like one of those 70's hot rod vans with the big tires in the back..... Go A-Team

how do the goldlines ride in comparison to stock?

feels the exact same to me. with the new 18's on it, you feel more road than with the 16's but that was expected.
Malibu_Rapper 06-05-2007, 07:40 AM My car is 3/4 lowered. I put the springs in the back last week by myself, they were easy. The back looks great now that the suspension has settled in.
The springs in the front I thought it would be easier but it ended up taking me about 1 hour to get the one side off. You have to remove the trim under the windshield and this metal plate with the wiper motor to make it easy to get to the nuts on the top of the struts. I got a full set of instructions with my springs.
The problem really began when I tried to put it back in place. I tried to do it myself and that was my first mistake. So I fumbled around for about an hour and a half only to call a friend up on the phone to help me put it in. Once he came over, it really only took about 5 minutes. We had to manhandle the strut into a good position, then jack the suspension arm up to where it was almost lined up with the big bolts. Once the big bolts were in, it was a piece of cake. Took it around for a test drive and noticed some noise coming from the suspension. Then it hit me, I forgot to tighten the bolt that connects up to this rod. I was able to tighten that bolt up without taking the wheel off. That rod ____es me off, it makes positioning the strut assembly a PITA.
Tomorrow I will do the other side with my friend.
Props to Randode that he can do this for $60. DIY? Not quite as easy with the gen1. Just make sure you have 2 people to do the front.
randode 06-05-2007, 06:32 PM you dont have to remove the wiper cowl.
Malibu_Rapper 06-05-2007, 06:48 PM you dont have to remove the wiper cowl.
Yeah, but that was actually the easy part and it makes it a lot easier than wrenching to get those nuts out. Also makes it easy when you put the strut back in. The hard part is getting that strut assembly back in.
CheapChic 06-06-2007, 01:36 AM randode, do you know where I can get the pdf instruction to the trd lowering springs...
how hare is it. and really you don't have to remove the cowl..
thanks
randode 06-06-2007, 03:05 AM look in the tech section for the 1st gen xB install guide that me and my buddy did a few years ago. its pretty much the same procedure.
i installed the TRD springs
when finished, i honestly couldn't tell that much of a difference in ride height
what i immediately noticed was the better handling -- however, the damping did worsen a bit.
however, having had the springs settle a bit -- the drop is now evident
it is actually the 'just right' height for the 20s i had installed
yes, it would look better a bit lower, but i didn't want to deal with rubbing issues with the 20s
i'm now waiting to upgrade the shocks/struts and add the sway/strut bars
CheapChic 06-06-2007, 11:11 AM is trd comming out with struts and shocks for the new xb, maybe i should wait.
what is damping?
CheapChic 06-14-2007, 11:37 AM anyone with just the trd springs. would you have wait for the trd struts instead of using the stock ones...
CheapChic 06-14-2007, 11:39 AM you dont have to remove the wiper cowl.

can you explain why it is so hard to strut back in??? once out??
thanks I need the help
