rpms question
I was kinda curious, what is everyone elses rpms at in 5th gear, around 60-65mph. Mine is like 3000-3100rpms. This seems kinda high for me. My dad says its because it has a smaller engine (he drives a mustang) and smaller engines rev higher. If thats the case, why didnt my old car with a 1.8 rev even higher. If its normal, then its just the car, but i still think its a little high. what u all think?
The engine size has NOTHING to do with the RPMs, well it's possible. It's all to do with the gearing in the transmission, in this case this car has some really short gears and with a torquey motor combined it's possible of what your talking of. I haven't actually stared at my gauges to see what the revs are unless I'm shifting but I'll get back at you next time I post after a drive. I think that might be right, it's not like your gonna see your revs jump to 6,000 when you go WOT in 5th lol.

questions, if your pushing your car for whatever reason, what's the highest rpm you let it go to in 1st and 2nd. I only ask because sometimes I rev high in 1st and wondered if that would cause problems over time.
once you hit 6k there seems to be a limiter on it.. feels like the gas pedal gives out and the car sounds like its going through a slow death. I would highly recommend not going to redline.
Its perfectly safe to redline your car. As long as you shift out when you hit redline and not lag into the Rev Limiter you wont feel anything going wrong.
Once you hit redline and go to the Limiter your car will basically bounce RPM's. Its not good. But not horribly bad.
If you like to take off and take it to the limit. Do it and shift out. Its a small engine. Built for high RPM's. Its safe fun and fast.
IMO if you do redline. practice on lower RPM's. More practice = better shifts = faster times.
