Question(s) for the people who perhaps endured this before.
Two weeks ago, I purchased a brand new tC. Let alone, just finally learned how to drive a manual. My question is, what really happened to my car when I exit the ramp from the freeway locked in 5th gears and not paying attention to my speed then going into 3rd gear. Yes, I did brake slowly but didn't pay attention to my meter. Then when I shifted into 3rd I heard the clunk noise and that's it. (I guess I wasn't taught properly?or did I do something wrong?) Any damage done to my car? A few replies could ease my pain as of now. Thank you for your time. Please don't replies with some flames and sarcastic remarks. Yes, I'm a new driver to the Stick Shift World. Still learning 1 rope at a time.
well im gonna be going through the same expieriences soon but i'd say
does it still shift well?
does it sound any different?
thats all i got for now but u might wanna just baby it for a few days. till you feel back comfortable with it.
and i dont mean to threadjack but
was the clutch very giddy at first since it was a new car?
was it hard to learn with such a new car?

ive done that before, going from 6k RPM in third gear and shifting into second.... oops.. the gears grinded and the engine made a funny sputtering noise, but i like slammed on the brakes (yeah i was racin a friend of mine) and pulled over and it wasn't smoking or anyhting and it seems to work right now.. i guess if something like that happens, it will be ok as long as the engine isn't exposed to it for prolonged periods of time, Soem leeway has to be built in for user error and stupidity, but dont press your luck
I just picked up my car a week ago and i've been practicing on it for a few days, still trying to pick it up. I did something fimilar but it wasn't in as high of a gear.. nothing really happened the car still seems to be running okay. But im sure if you just got the car you'll be alright, If that happens too often than im sure something is going to be wrong with the car. Im sure its okay.

Seriously, though - if you let off the clutch too fast when down shifting, you may have just caused an abrupt engagement...which made the clunk. If it drives fine in all gears now, without any noticeable difference, you should be fine. If you heard any type of abnormal grinding noise or felt the gear missing, I'd say take it in for a check-up - but ease your mind...it's a pretty durable car...unless you have RS3 #1232.
