That's an old flavor that was out over a year ago. It was my favorite while it was out. The taste kicked some @ss.

Taste: This new variation on the old standby Funyns indeed had some wasabi flavor, but it was more like a hint of wasabi. The taste was not as vinegary as the smell. The overall taste was less oniony than a regular Funyun, with a little bit of a bite, but not something where your head will explode. If you want something that really tastes like wasabi (like wasabi peas), this is probably not the snack for you. But if you love Funyuns and want to try a different tasting Funyun, these are OK.

The consensus is that Funyuns with WASABI! are pretty pointless. The wasabi flavor isn’t intense enough to justify its bastardization.

It managed to drown out the funyun-ey goodness without contributing enough spice and fire to make up for it. I could probably try to develop the taste for them, who know's? There may be subleties that emerge with an educated palate which are not quickly revealed under the flourescent lighting at work.

But your funyuns thread had driven me to a funyuns frenzy- so I had to have one. No one that I have talked to who is buying the wasabi variety is a previous funyuns devotee. So these poor kids are eating ONLY the wasabi, becoming hooked on it's light white powder, more mustard than horseradish, and on the Asian Devil-Spice-ometer, I would give it one Puffy Ami Yumi for heat intensity. These kids are losing a fundamental American Liberty- the right to snack food that is fast, easy to find, and deeply satisfying.

So if you find yourself at Walgreens or 7-11 and think to yourself, "Hey this new Wasabi flavored Funyuns Onion Flavored Rings sounds delicious!" - think again
