Just bought a TC, but the stereo was not pre-factory installed. Do these cars normally arrive at the dealership this way? It sucks because the dealership claimed it didn't have the stereo in stock and I ended up driving away with out a stereo. I was told the part would be arrive in 3 days. It's been more than a week. Supposedly it's now on backorder. This kind of service is crap.

Yeah it happened to me too. Mine didn't have stereo and they wanted me to choose between stock and upgraded one. They didn't have one in stock and it took 1 week to finally get it installed. I believe they don't install it first because some may want upgraded one.

 

My salesman also told me it will take 3 days. But they never called me and I ended up calling them.

 

see for me i wanted the stock rims when i bought mine it had some nasty chrome wheels (which are now my winter rims) and they were like ummmm let me take a look and get ahold of you in a few days well i think i waited more then a week and then went back and they said sorry we dont have any stock rims for the tc. so i just took off with the chrome ones and then got my white 17" ro_ja's.

 

This story sounds awfully familiar! I had the EXACT same thing happen when I went to pick up my tC back in 'o4. The dealership even told me that it would take 3 days to get a HU! The only advice I can give you is to be persistant. Call them a couple of times a day. If it takes longer than 3 days, who knows, they might give you the upgraded HU just to get you out of their hair.

 

I negotiated the upgraded stereo with the dealership when I bought the car. That is when they told me the part was not in stock. I have no paperwork from them saying that they owe me this part. That's what is worrying me.

 

Like I said, call them. They should have it documented that you didn't receive a HU upon delivery.
Just be sure that when they do install it that it is the UPGRADED HU.

 

I didn't have paperwork either, but my salesperson knew it, so does yours. Just call him and tell him to get it to you asap or you will return your car! j/k But don't worry about it, I think it's a common issue on scion vehicles.

 

I had the same problem when i went to buy mine. I went to drive it off the lot and opened the little silver door to a empty hole I turned around and went back and the sales guy who said it didnt come with one because some people like to purchase aftermarket units. I had to purchase one from scion to get the head unit. I looked on the window sticker and it said there was suppose to be one there. He told me it would be a few days before they could get one and I told him that wasnt acceptable. Went to his boss and asked why the stereo was removed b/c it was on the window sticker as standard equipment. Long story short I got a stereo installed that day from another tc.

 

i'm not sure about nowadays but back in 04 i know none of them came with a stereo, they were all installed at the dealer. there's really no "factory" installed stuff for the tc, most of it is installed at the dealership and they tack on the price. at least this is how it was back in the day, they might load up some tc's now to make more money though.

 

All HU are not pre-installed or factory installed. This is done at the dealer. All new vehicles include a base HU. However, if a upgraded HU was on order at the time of delivery, you should receive documentaion or confirmation from service dept.
