Man that looks very nice, out of curiosity where did you get the tint done, it's very clean.

Also did you have someone install the lights or can it be a DIY project? Relative costs?

Thanks, Once again very slick!

If you do windshield tint, just use the lightest tint.....
Even the very very light tint helps out glare and the heat....
Police probably can't even tell the difference from just looking at it....

well then yeah, that's great... in my mind a low price would exceed all... what do you think about the single reverse light in the back? I'm still undecided on it, it is unique... how come a lot of european cars are like that? :tap:

Is that just one led bulb swap on the interior dome? Looks good. You sell it?

Any advice on how to open up? I have not tried but saw another thread from someone who said they couldn't figure it out.

Thanks for the pics....

That is a sick car, i love it.

Just a question about the reverse tail light, it looks great, what kind of led bulb is it, I know the bulb type, just wondering about the # of led's. Also, does it actually help with making things any brighter behind you?

Thanks, and NICE work on the ride.

Here's the reverse light thread:

http://www.scionlife.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=199001

None of the LED bulbs produce more lumens (which is what brightens things up behind you); they just LOOK brighter and super white when you are staring directly at them.

I bought the 36 LED bulb shown on page 2 of that thread. Looks bright, but actually throws off less light away from the bumper. Immediately put the stock bulb back in, so if you want it, I'll sell it to you for the $15 I paid for it, plus actual shipping costs. I paid $25 for the bulb, shipping & handling, and insurance. I'm guessing the total would come to $18-$19.

I also have a 2-pack of the PIAA Super White 7440 reverse light bulbs that I'll part with... exact same lighting issues.

Yea, I saw the reverse light thread, I was just hoping someone figured out something and didn't post in the thread. My last car (98 Eclipse) had dual reverse lights that lit up the area almost as well at my headlights, and the reverse on the xB is killing me.

I guess add one more to the list of people that are working on a fix, I have 2 spare eclispe reverse lights that I am gonna play with and see about getting one to fit, not sure if it will help, but its something to do.

No LED's will be brighter than the stock incandescent bulb when it comes to the amount of lumens thrown off.
It depends on the LED...
For small type bulbs.. there are LED that are brighter then incandescent bulb...
LED can be design as bright or brighter....

i think it would be super annoying to anyone behind you when you back up.
It will be help for at night time....
As long as you don't reverse in the traffic.. shouldn't annoy people.... :P

No LED's will be brighter than the stock incandescent bulb when it comes to the amount of lumens thrown off.
It depends on the LED...
For small type bulbs.. there are LED that are brighter then incandescent bulb...
LED can be design as bright or brighter....

I was only talking about the 7440 reverse light bulb, as it relates to the amount of light thrown out away from the light fixture, that illuminates the area behind and away from the vehicle when sitting in the driver seat and backing up. Yes, when looking directly at the fixture it does appear brighter with some LED bulbs.

I have some that are bright as or even brighter....
Like I said, it all depends on the design....
But comparing price per lumen... incandescent hands down....

There is no window tint on the windshield... cause of the limo (5%) tint makes it look darker from the front..

It is illegal to have 5% on the front side window....
From Nevada law, you can have what ever % from rear side windows and rear window...
But for the front side window, you have have 25% or higher...

On my Celica I have 50% tint on the windshield.. which is really illegal....

I haven't see any HID kit made for 7440 size, did you had to custom mount it??
I'm not even sure if it's practical to have HID for reverse light... since it's rarely used....
But I'm sure you can see the rear easily...

Why take it out? Must be super bright for backing up at night now.
Is it a 35 watt HID? Did you rewire from the battery all the way back?
Do you have a close-up picture of the bumper and light with the light off?
I'd like to see what it looks like compared to the stock housing and plastic lens.
Thanks for being the pioneer.

That HID bulb should be a lot hotter than the 21w 7440.
I would worry about a melt down if the light's left on very long.

marcemarcxB08
03-07-2008, 02:12 AM
i know it probably takes away some of my glory...but i did put into consideration that im not going to be constantly sending it power in which i believe it will not heat it up enough to melt it ...it similar to a headlight housing so that made me believe it would not melt it...

CIONIDE
03-07-2008, 02:18 AM
Very good, no glory lost. As far as I know, you're the first guinea pig to try it.

Don't need a picture of the bumper with fixture now, but it would be great to see a shot of how well it lights the distance away from the back at night... you know, what you'd see from the driver's seat when backing up.

Thanks.
