Default scion mechaninc please help!

Hi guys

I recently discuused this with another he gave me good advice but i would still like to double check.

Where im at its difficult to get scion parts.
My air/fuel ratio sensor is screwed p2195
The dealer here has a 2006 camry a/f ratio sensor parts number 89467-33040
The scion tc uses 89467-33080.
Are they interchangeable, i understand the tc uses a camry engine.

Please help i ready to buy just need the go ahead

Any help would be seriously appreciated

I wouldn't. I am not exactly sure the difference but I can assure you if it has different part numbers then more than likely one of two things: its not a wide band sensor and/or the resistance is different.

Have you verified that the sensor is actually bad? There are other causes, like the car actually being lean (I beleive that is the code for the sensor being stuck lean). Make sure you troubleshoot properly before just replacing parts like the dealer would

I forgot I could look up dtc with computer software I have but you are right that is what the code says. It says 02 Sensor Stuck Lean (Bank 1, Sensor 1) which our cars only has one bank with two sensors and the sensor is the one in the header.

if the part numbers are different then the parts are different.

For those not familiar with the OP, he stripped the threads on his OEM AFR while installing a header and put in a Denso replacement. We told him to get the exact OEM replacement but he's having difficulty getting one.

This is a new thread for the same problem.

yea dude like i told ya before. it is the same engine (the 2az), but the sensor is slightly different if the part # is different, but it could be a minor difference, such as a longer wire. but i dont know for sure what the difference is, so i would get the tC sensor

If it is stuck lean, and the sensor and wiring is good, then it is running lean (hence the stuck lean code). The code is basically saying "I am doing everything I can to richen up the mix to make the proper A/F, but the sensor still says I am lean. So the sensor is wrong or we have an issue getting enough fuel to the cylinders for the amount of air coming in". So it could be a number of issues. If you can smell it is running rich, then that means the sensor is probably bad or the wiring is damaged.

But it sounds like this is a case of a damaged sensor given one of the posts above.

okay

but how can i tell if the engine is running rich or lean.
the mechanic who read the code said every other aspect is fine idle, etc.
i know i will have to change the sensor.
but i have to run on it till july, but what are the signs to look for on a rich or lean running engine??

tnx in advance

A strong gasoline smell in the exhaust is a sign of the car running rich. Especially on a car with a catalytic convertor, which usually masks that smell quite well. It will smell more like raw gasoline rather than the normal exhaust smell. That would make me lean towards the sensor being bad, causing the ecu trying to compensate for a lean condition that doesnt really exist.

first off id fix that asap.. gas going into cat is bad and can lead to needing a cat. also system to lean its the sensor. the heater circuit malfunction can cause that code.. it could be a fuel injector but i 99.9% doubt it. replace the sensor and not that sensor is different.
