View Full Version : New car with 346 miles ! should I buy it?
I'm trying to get a white xB, but the dealer don't have it. So he swap the car with another dealer acrross the state and have it driven all the way from West Viginia to Maryland. It has 346 miles on it  .
At this point, I'm very concern about the engine break-in and I think that it is a used car. Will the car be in good shape in the long run?
Should I take the car? :? Please help.....
XBman 09-24-2004, 12:21 AM how much is it goin 4. If it were me i would get it is it was like 13,000 but nothing higher than that. Just wait untill they have a new 1 in stock. I wouldnt like another person that i dont know drive a car thats not broken in yet. but thats my opinion.
The dealer still gives me at an MSRP price with only 2 additional oil changes. :( I guess I should wait for a new one. Thanks for your comment.
XBman 09-24-2004, 12:26 AM Yes definatly wait. Itll be worth it i promice

My xb should be here tomorrow or early next week. They wanted to sell me one with a few hundred on the clock and I said no way, i'll wait for my brand new one. This way you know exactly how it was driven.
Mark1 09-24-2004, 10:26 AM I took my xB with 100 miles. ( also a dealer trade ) Unless it was driven with no oil 100 miles is not enuf to do any real dammage.
Hatchback_Fiend 09-24-2004, 10:31 AM Nooo, dude. Do NOT buy the car. 346 miles is too many miles to have on a brand new car. Chances are, a bunch of people beat the ____ out of it on a test drive... They want to hear the engine notes so they'll just slam it. And you know, they say the most important period in the life of an engine is the initial miles and manner in which those miles are accumulated.
boilerman 09-24-2004, 10:46 AM There is a point of personal responsibility. If one were offered a vehicle through a dealer vehicle swap he should accept the fact that the car will be driven from dealer to dealer. If the mileage on the vehicle is appropriate to the distance between the two dealers the buyer should live up to the deal. A vehicle used as a demonstrator is another thing altogether. Demonstrator vehicle mileage and treatment must always be suspect. In addition to customer trials one sees new vehicles with dealers tags in shopping center parking lots and other locations. Someone at the dealership is using these vehicles for personal transportation for himself/herself and possibly family members. It is not the responsibility of the purchaser to pay for the frivolity of the dealership employees.
tcm_xB 09-24-2004, 10:57 AM I told the dealer I wanted my car with no more than 5 miles on the odometer.
346 miles is not a NEW car anymore. Tell them to get you an xB with less than 5 miles since you are purchasing a NEW car :!: :!: :!:
This is the 2nd thread I've read in about 3 days about this problem. Tell them there is no negotiation in the sticker price and there is none with the mileage. Go elsewhere if they don't believe you. I went through 2 dealers before having to drive 198 miles myself to get a fair deal
Thanks for all your comments. I agree with all your comments. There are many ways to transport a car from point A to point B. The dealer should have used the tow truck...
I will definately wait for a new one. It might take a few weeks but I will wait anyway.
Thanks again!

They drive them from point A to B because it's quicker, cheaper, and the average Joe doesn't give a $hit! Just like the average Joe doesn't give a $hit about the car 3 months down the road --> keeping the car clean, routine oil changes, parking next to other cars, etc....
oni424 09-24-2004, 01:01 PM WHich dealer?
Try scion of Glen Burnie. I had no trouble getting the exact car I wanted.
Also get in contact with several dealers, the first one to ge the car wind your business!
joescionwv 09-24-2004, 01:05 PM IF IT CAME FROM UNIVERSITY MOTORS IN WV DO NOT BUY!!! MAKE SURE YOU READ MY REVIEW OF THOSE DOOSHBAGS they suck so bad also thats way to many miles on a new car proably wont even have a new car smell anymore proably just some fat sweaty mechanic smell who shows his crack to the world be smart just wait for a new one when they get one.IT may take awhile but trust me its worth it
Agent_Orange 09-24-2004, 04:58 PM There is a Dodge Dealer here that sells NEW cars after they have been used by employees for up to 5,000 miles. They are still regarded as new, and titled as such. They do give a discount. However these cars are usually top end vehicles ($$$$$) and what they loose in discount is absorbed by the added packages installed on the vehicle. Before I bought the XB, I looked at a NEW Dakota (2003) that was loaded, offered them basically the price of a new XB and they turned it down. It was loaded and had 5,000 miles on it. never titled. I came within $1200 of the Xb on a stripped down 2004 Dakota club cab with 0 miles. I think I made the right choice.
My SCION dealer told me that they were not permitted to use them as demos once the Regional NFS Promo vehicles were gone. My new Xb came from a dealer near where I lived,, but I bought it at a dealer I prefered 45 miles away, hence mine had 58 miles on when I picked it up.
Thanks Mark!
Dan
Aquakeeper 09-24-2004, 08:38 PM Hey Kong...there are alot of good Scion dealers around Maryland. If u go to the dealers section here then it will show u the MD Dealers. Id write down the #'s and start calling around to see whos got what u want.
I waited over a month for a dealer to find me mine and finally got tired of waiting, made a few phone calls and went to another dealer and got it that day. I had to drive an hr out of my way to get it but Id say it was worth it.
