View Full Version : headers??? worth it????? danny662boy 06-08-2007, 10:15 PM so im looking for my next mod, i have a magnaflow cat, and k n n cai, would headers be a good next step???? and if so, what would be a good one to go with that combo? like quality sound, power, etc, no cell lights??? scionblitz 06-08-2007, 10:21 PM i have dc headers injen intake and injen exaust seams to work really well the headers need a lil touch but over all i love it!!!!! whiteshirt 06-08-2007, 10:34 PM It would be good for power, but the sound might compromised. There are ways to fix that though, i.e. resonators and highflow cats. malibuboy54 06-09-2007, 02:56 AM i think most of the headers out there give you rasp unless you have a giant resonator.....do you have a 5 spd? cause you could get the ingalls torque dampener.....like less than $200 and puts more power to the ground....the i/h/e combo barely nets anything noticeable, or usable......upgrade your suspension, and learn to drive your car for real, and you can have a lot of fun....if you want straight line performance, go turbo!!!! haha..... danny662boy 06-09-2007, 02:36 PM oh ya i drive 5 spd, i have h & r coilovers, better brake pads, rotors, wheels tires etc. just tryin to figure out what i wanna do next, turbo would b amazing, but not worth 4000 dollars, plus having someone install it, i could use that , trade this in get a 01-04 m3. Dc is great quality and it come ceramic coated, reduce heat and kool down faster when car is off. All the dyno's I have seen that combo nets anywhere from 15-30hp, that's nothing to shake a stick at and from personal experience I have to say its definitely noticable power:) A header alone is usually 10-15hp. Sleep3r 06-09-2007, 03:52 PM if you get a header, get 4-2-1, better for low end since our high end red line at 6 something haha....i been wanting to get MMW, but i got AW for now and its great malibuboy54 06-10-2007, 03:16 AM i think most of the headers out there give you rasp unless you have a giant resonator.....do you have a 5 spd? cause you could get the ingalls torque dampener.....like less than $200 and puts more power to the ground....the i/h/e combo barely nets anything noticeable, or usable......upgrade your suspension, and learn to drive your car for real, and you can have a lot of fun....if you want straight line performance, go turbo!!!! haha..... i/h/e barely nets you anything? I haven't heard any car with a 4 cylinder/i/h/e that didn't sound annoying in some way or another, but for me I could care less how it sounds if the car feels the way I want it to. The CEL fix is an easy one, so that's not a big deal either. amdforever 06-12-2007, 01:37 AM ok, but whats the deal with the cel light? doesnt the check engine light come on with the dc sports header??? i want something thats good, dont really care to much bout price, thats an easy install, with no check engine lights. also the local muffler shop should put on the resonator theN? my boy has a ls vtec hondER with some dc sports headers, and that is prolly the most annoying sound ever, who cares bout power, when it sounds like poooop the CEL is going to come on no matter what header you get for the car. There is whats called the antifouler trick to get it to go away but its a hit or miss on our cars, some respond others dont. The reason it comes on is b/c our second o2 sensor is measuring airflow and realizes its more than what it should be and throws the light b/c it thinks there is something wrong with the pre-cat which is located on the stock header with the first o2 sensor sticking out of it. When you take off the stock header and put a better one on it sees more flow and thinks its bad. So you move the o2 sensor out of the flow so it doesnt get the reading anymore and you should be good to go. There is one that a guy made on here that is a 90degree angle for 25 bucks and it works so far on mine. Granted I've only gone ~150 on mine so far but he says his is over 2500 at the time i bought it a month ago and still no lighter so it seems to be working. As far as installing goes...its a case by case basis, some people its easy others its not. My DC header was a pain kinda, couldnt get some of the mounting bolts off and I soaked them in PB blaster overnight and before I try to take them off. I still havn't gotting the two o2 sensors out...and they've been soaking since friday night, glad I bought two new ones to make it easy. Your always going to have rasp with a header and no resonator. It's mainly the sound just bouncing, reverberating, and echoing in the mid pipe, that is why there was a resonator there in the first place. Since some people get cat backs without resonators built in you have to add one or two yourself. Hope this helps, just PM if you have other questions. danny662boy 06-19-2007, 11:26 PM ya definately helped out thanks |
