Default Should I get a Header

I'm undecided I have the short Ram and Strup axle-back and slack adjusted from Throttle cable. I have heard that the factory manifold is similar to a header. So I was wondering has anyone had the same setup as me then went to a header and noticed a big difference. THANKS.......

i have the AEM CAI and TRD Exhaust and Strup header. not the same setup, but i can say that it will make a big difference. especially in the 4-6K range. your exhaust note will sound meatier too.

yes pick up a header. the tubing is usually bigger and longer allowing for better flow than the oem style one.

strup is 4-1 design, and obx is 4-2-1 design. the 4-1 designs are probably the most widely found style for our engines because the piping is so short. 4-1 implies a mid-top end bump, while the 4-2-1 implies a low-mid end bump. since the header is so short, the design difference should not make a whole lot of difference in what you feel.

OBX 4-2-1 has been working perfectly for me and I def recommend it. I have the TRD Exhaust and the exhaust note is nice.

Not interested in an intake but Ill prob do the snorkel mod and throw in a TRD Filter.

out later this week.

ok heres a question for you guys. I was in the same boat as carnauba but i did get my headers. before the headers i had "trd exhaust, trd cai, full megan piping" then last night i installed my headers. Its freakin loud tho, it screams on the fwy. So now my problem is, i dont know what to get rid of? I dont want to loose too much hp and tourque. Today i removed my megan mid pipe and substituted my stock mid. What set up would i be best with?

completely diff cars. tC's sound horrible with header and exhaust. xB's actaully sound better with header and exhaust.

i think you did it right by removing the midpipe though. a local buddy has the MMW header with TRD exhaust on his RS3 tC. he put in a custom midpipe and it sounds ridic loud and awful. part of your problem is the TRD exhaust; it just sounds bad with any header.

When I had my tC, I remember threads about certain exhausts working better with headers. But I def remember reading that TRD sounded the worst with header because that is the exhaust I had.

Silencer's slow down the flow of exhaust gases so they cause a "loss" in power. How much, prob negligible. But I say search and find which exhaust works best with a header.

I am looking for the same thing as OmegA-62. I have 2 1/4 pipe ran from my cat to my muffler which is the obx muffler and i have the injen cold air intake. I want a little more horse power but i don't know which is better to get for the XA. a 4-2-1 header or a 4-1? Any ideas?

Yes get a header. I have a strup and I am very happy with it. It isn't cheap but you get what you pay for.

I would definitely agree, get the header, you wont be disappointed. Usually i don't recommend any cheapy eBay parts, but the the header i purchased was a a cheapy eBay, which cost me $50.00 shipped and it works WONDEFUL!! Of course it doesn't have the classy design or the greatest welds, but it gets the job done. Besides, on our cars a well designed header will probably give you 1 or 2 extra horses, for about $100.00 more. You do the math.
