what do you guys think of this cap?
i dont know very much about systems or anything in cars so yeah, recently my batterie died just randomly im guessing its cause of my subs, i have a 1800 watt amp and two 1000 watt subs stock speakers and headunit, do u think this cap would help? what difference will it make? is it usless for me? any help i would appriciate thanks.
I think most people familiar with car audio will tell you a big 3 upgrade is much more beneficial for dimming than a cap. I can attest to the cap not doing a whole lot because I have one and when it was in my old car I didn't see much improvement and I've had no dimming in the tC so far.
CAPS DO HAVE A PURPOSE IN CAR AUDIO. They reduce the effects of transient spikes which cause very quick dimming of the lights. They do not in any way preserve your battery life, they act as a high pass filter. In most cases you do not need them these days.
Your battery WILL die directly because of powering your subs. If you are overworking your alternator to the point that it is not holding up minimum charge voltage and current, then the battery will be in a discharge state. Typically you will notice a lot of light dimming if this is occuring. If this is the case the ONLY alternative is a higher capacity alternator. Given the connections are good. The alt is providing all of the current plus the charge current needed to charge the battery while running.
A big three upgrade is typically the first thing to start with. 90% of the people thinking they need a higher capacity alternator do not, and they are not pushing near the power they think they are.
Make sure you have good, solid, short grounds. Make sure your power supply wiring is the right size and that it is properly connected. And before anything, make sure your amp remote wire is connected so that the amp is off when the car is... or your battery will be dead in the morning ;)
