Default Scion TC-Dent Resistant Panels?!

Hey Everyone, I was wondering if the Scion TC has dent resistant panels like most of the new cars have, such as the Saturn Ion.

I was driving 2day throught road construction on a Dirt Road, and a old Saturn stopped in front of me REALLY fast. and hard. I was going about 35 when I jammed the brakes and slid about 100-150 Feet and Rear ended him..

I about cried..We pulled over and I went 2 look @ his rear bumper and it was completely un harmed, Scared I walked over 2 my car thinking I got the ____ty end of the deal..

Needless 2 say, the Scion TC was unharmed..I couldnt beleive it!! I must have been going 30 when I hit him..and he was stopped..

Dent Resistant Panels..Add 2 the 'Why I love my CAR so much' List!!

Dood - "most new cars" don't have dent resistant anything. Saturns have always had that ____. They're made out of plastic. Which is cool and all, but it's a Saturn gimmick. The front and back of a lot of cars are made out of plastic, but it isn't the same. Most plastic sucks and there is just a better chance of it flexing a lot and having the paint come off. You got lucky... nothing dent resistant here.

I've heard Saturn will stop producing dent resistant panels. During the winter, the dent resistant panels shrink. At least that's what GM stated.

I thought it did..... when I first went to the dealer the car (not mine thank god) but the one that I test drove the dealer beat the ____ out of it to show me how the panels wouldn't dent. I am sure if someone opened their doors too hard and a sharp end hit it, it would dent like that, but not by a large abject.

There may not be any visible damage, but if you were indeed travelling at 30MPH and hit a stopped car, there is bound to be some damage underneath that plastic bumper cover. Once that is compromised, the car will be less effective in absorbing any future impacts.

I doubt that you were going that fast though. The airbags usually depoly at somewhere around 15MPH. Since you did not get a face full of airbag, I think you are exaggerating a bit.

still good to hear that you were able to have your car home in one piece. My friend evildave was not so lucky, his xB was damaged by a barrel on the freeway. Nice to also hear that the tCs are very durable. :D

I wish the panels are dent resistant, but tonight I learned that they definitely aren't. My fiance and I went for a nice drive through the canyons tonight in his XB and when we came back, I noticed some pink drippy stuff running down the driver side rear panel. At a closer glance, it looked like ice cream. It couldn't have been though, because when I finished wiping it off I noticed a nice little dent. I can't believe the haters out there!!!! Now I gotta find someone to do paintless dent removal because I can't stand to see my new car witha dent.

If not Ice Cream..Hmm maybe a pink vehicle that hit U..

Sorry About your Xb, most body shops will do dent removal if the paint is still there..

Umm... Why would you want to Saturnize the car by adding cheap plastic dent-resistant panels? A wicked dumb poll!!!

well, toyota doesn't have dent resistant panels, but they use dent resistant substances in the paint. i don't know exactly how it works. but, toyota sprays a coat of paint, then a coat of the dent resistant stuff, then another one of paint, you get the picture. but, anywho, i don't think its as effective as saturns panels, but it is better than nothing.

First off, No one "Saturnized" nothing..Most new cars come w/ "Cheap" Plastic Front and Rear Bumpers..

In Repsonse 2 the Poll, I didnt know if Scions Bumpers were Dent Resistant, Meaning they could withstand minor bumps..some plastics bumpers cannot and either the bumper will crack or paint will chip off..

When I hit this car I was prolly about 15-20 MPH and nothing happened 2 the front bumper..Hence why I put the poll up cause I didnt know the specs on Scions Bumpers..

I personally think you are lying... I don't believe you could have rear-ended him at 10+ miles and not have done any damage... the dent resistent panels that Saturn use are dent resistent against extremely minor things (opening and closing of doors, for example), not low speed car-to-car collision.

Once again, the dent-resistant panels on the Saturns will only safeguard against extremely minor encounters (a standing jumpkick, door of a car parked next to you, etc), NOT rear end collisions.
