Has anyone replace the stock speakers with aftermarkets? If so, whatcha got and how does it sound?

I'm looking to switch but I'm not sure what to get. I don't want a sub in the back just because i don't want to take up the space. I want to replace the stock speakers. I know that will make the system sound better. the doors seem to fit a 61/2 speaker but may have room to fit an 8" subs with a little mod which would be cool cuse it wouldn't take up space.

Any advise?

OMG, isn't that illegal? If factory didn't put em in, can you? This is crazy talk

I've got the Phoenix Gold 6" Titanium Elites (yet to be installed) with a PG Titanium 600.2. These speakers have a 3" voice coil and can handle up to 300 watts RMS. My amp is going to give them 150 x 2 at 4 ohms. The tweeters can get pretty high and the speakersgive really great bass reproduction without a sub if you give them the right wattage, so my subs will just complement them even further. My stereo guys say it would be a great solution for a car with no subs, and the speakers can get pretty low. They are a bit pricey at 800 for the speakers and 750 for the amp, so it depends on whether you want an upgrade or a really nice setup.

i have image dynamics ctx dash, door and rear speakers. i also have the subenclosure w/ 12 inch sub. i love the way my car sounds. the best thing about the sub enclosure is that all you need is a grill and you lose only the little storage compartment on the right in the rear. i still have fulle use of the space behind the rear seats.

I think this is true, if you alter anything, you will void your warrenty. Thats ok, just removed the entire aftermarket system before you take it in for repairs.

Remember it is Saturday night, that is when Crazy Talk is most used....

I replaced my entire system with Sony Xplode equipment w/3way speakers in the front doors and rear, tweeters in the dash, 10" Sony sub in the back, 480 watt amp. Sounds great, but if I had it to do over again, I'd use the Scion 6 disc head unit and only update the speakers/amp and not the head unit.

Has anyone installed aftermarket subs and amps using the stock deck? I have done this in the past using a converter (speaker to RCA) but, I have the powered sub in XB now and want to replace it without changing anything else and need to know if there is anyway I can use the existing cables running to the powered sub.

I've installed a subwoofer and amp using the stock deck. I just tapped into the speaker output wires on the stock deck and used the high level inputs on my kicker amp. The amp is mounted under the seat. It would sound better if the deck had true RCA outputs or if i had a new stock deck. there is a post in which they talk about hooking up an amp to the stock deck. search

The Infinity's are good though some say that the tweeters are very "bright". I've heard that the Focal's are great sounding.

I'm hooking up our xB with the help of a few sponsors... East Coast Audio Concepts is putting in a custom box (dual 10" subs) and amp for us (nothing wild, just a box)... coming off the stock head with converter... have yet to hear it cuz it's in the works... can't wait tho.. anybody in Upstate NY ought to check these guys out... they do awesome work!!!

I replaced the front door and rear speakers with Infinity 6 1/2" two way reference series. I also added a jvc amp and 12" Infinity subwoofer with enclosure in the back. An adaptor had to be used to install the 6 1/2's in the rear panel. All the work was done at Circuit City. I Am also thinking of replacing the head unit with an Alpine. The pioneer gives good strong bass, but I miss the crisp and clear clarity of the Alpine hu.

check out Image Dynamic's CTX series speakers, i replaced my dash speakers with CTX4 4" components and the doors with CTX 6 6" components, the seperation on the highs is just amazing, super loud but really clean sound.

coupled with my spfr sub enclosure and an ID 12 v.3 sub in the trunk....whooooooo!
