I think most of them are just looking for a killer story like "I beat that box looking car, that thing must have a killer engine because of its shape." Most dont put 1+1 together to know the xB is a little underpowered.

one of these times, race one of those civics if u have a 5 sp and laugh about it in the end....you'll find that these guys like to get beat by damn near everything.....

You'll laugh, but I actually beat an automatic V6 Camaro (with the old 3.4l V6) and a non-V8 Durango. I was just fooling around, but I couldn't believe I actually pulled from both. Definately a good laugh something this slow could hold its own against cars, all be it base models, much more powerful than the Toaster.

I think it has more to do with the fact that you are stealing THEIR attention at the light. They modded the hell out of their car only to have the spot light stolen by a stocker box. I agree with the idea that the xBs seem faster than they are and can keep pace well (especially 2nd-4th on the 5spd).

Common guys, don't kid yourselves. Did these people actually KNOW you were racing? You've seen the Quarter mile timeslips posted elsewear. They run 17-18's with 108 blazing HP. Is there a car it will really actually beat, realistically. Keep in mind it was designed to be a race car, even after you spend a grand for cold air intake, exhuast, and big stickers you are still going to have a hard time giving any car a decent run if they know they are in a race. OK, you may be able to beat an old chevy sprint 3 cylinder, or the Pre-turbo VW diesels. But get real.
Don't get me wrong, I LOVE the box (the looks anyway) but the performance of even the stick is hard to live with. Passing on the highway?- fahgetaboutit. I've owned 26 cars and the only one I've ever had that was slower was the 1986 Golf Diesel with 200K miles on it. Even after adding a 50HP NOS shot, I don't expect to actually be able to race anybody unless I come up on a ragged out Celebrity or K-car or something like that. Other than that, I'll spare myself the embarrassment and just continue to try and keep pimping and looking good.

I took out a Jeep Liberty. Thought he wa gonna pass me real quick and cut me off for a right turn. Little did he know he had to slow down and get behind me.

I have been challenged in terms of having the best sound system.....I would have people pull up and hear my music on volume 45 and I would see them turn theirs up. I look at them and laugh.....its sad to see how much ego people have

They may have me in straight away speed, but I enjoy the look in their eyes in their rear view mirrors when I catch and out corner them every time, and it doesn't matter what they are driving. They brake and I accelerate.

I thought it was funny, some cavalier w/ grey primer body kit, white hood, and a sewer pipe for exhaust pulls up next to me w/ it's windows down... I can hear the passanger talking to the driver "blah blah blah.. i hate those box POS..." Basicly trashing my car... So the light turns green and he churps it leaving... So i reved it out. Basicly racing him, and surprisingly enough I was walking away from them!! I couldnt believe it. So the next like I stopped (with ear to ear grin) and they pulled up both looking at my box... not a word... After of 10-20sec of aww, they started bashing harder than before. (Sour Grapes?)

I've been challenged a few times, but more so on the freeway. The xB may not be quick on a straightaway, but it's easy to maneuver between tight spaces.

I get hit up all the time...It just makes me laugh when they try to rev up on me, especially during rush hour

I was running behind the other day and had to go about 150 miles.
I was very happy with the way it drove and passed whenever I wanted to.
Part of the way was 4 lane, part was 2 lane and I had no trouble
getting around other cars when I wanted to. Part of the time I went to
fourth to pass, most of the time didn't have to downshift. It is nice not
having to brake on curves.
So, I will have to disagree with it the posting that it didn't have enough power,
it got me where I wanted, when I needed to be there.

Been challeneged a few times but don't care to race b/c i'm realistic. Although I do tell them we'll go on my horn then i pull out my air horn and just blast them and laugh.

These dumbass punks in a G35 Coupe passed me the other night as i was on my way home. Blasted past me, but they were braking as soon as there would be some traffic in his lane. He was clueless, except he could blast in a straight line.

Like the tortoise and the hare, I would catch him and pass him and then he'd stomp the gas and blast again. After the 3rd time he passes me, (I've been doing a steady 85-90) the guy in the passenger seat gives a big "Thumbs Down" out the window, which then turns into another one out the sunroof. As traffic slows down and I AGAIN pass them, the dufus in the passenger seat goes "Why don't you get a real car instead of a shoebox."

I said "You've got a "real car" BUT you can't lose me! I'm still right beside you. That guy just sucks as a driver." pointing to the driver. The driver grimaced and the passenger kept talking ____. We yelled back and forth a few times and finally I said "Who do you punks think you're kidding, EVERYONE KNOWS that his Mommy's car!" Total silence, red faces, BULLSEYE! They yelled some more ____ but by then traffic was going again...

108 Horsepower - What's YOUR excuse? Until horsepower can move cars out of the lane ahead of me, I don't really need any more than that.

The people in this forum that say this car is quick have never had a quick car before. don’t get me wrong I love my Xb, I used to have a 91 crx & the stock 1.6 motor had potential it also had 108 hp after some headers, exhaust, intake I thought the car was fast but not until I put a japanese motor and nitrous in it then it was fast I used to love it because at the time rice burners were still laughed at so maybe the Xb still has a way to go.........but for now its slow really slow

I think most are saying its quick for a 108hp 2400Lb car. Your CRX had about 300lbs less weight then the xB does.

When i see a group of people standing around i take off and make it seem like my box had nuts, but when people pull up to me and try to race i always pretend i am looking for a cd or something when the light changes green.

I know that myself along with anyone else who has an exhaust, intake or whatever may be asking for it because when some dude in his Civic with his coffee can exhaust and 47lb. wing sees us he just has to start revving. My story is like this, I was at a redlight and a BMW Dinan pulls up beside me and I suppose he saw my exhaust, you know, the Borla sticks out a little. Anyway, he starts pounding pedals at the redlight and I swear I thought he was going to run out of gas if he didn't stop! I just laughed! What was I going to do, ask him to race? Hell no! So we get on the interstate and traffic is bumper to bumper and I thought he was going to kill somebody just to prove to me that his car is as fast as it is loud. I promise I did nothing to provoke this but this guy was hard eying me the whole time. On second though I think I ____ed him off when I laughed at the redlight. I wanted to pull him over and say "Dude, I'm in an xB for crying out loud! Not exactly a speed demon." I just think it's ridiculous sometimes. It was a lot more amusing in person so if I bored you I'm sorry.

That's classic!

I think most of us know the Xb is slow as balls period, hehe.

I just got rid of my 1g DSM and got an XB and let me tell you the difference is like night and day, lol. I got rid of it because I had the opportunity to buy something new for a change so I hopped on it. When I first saw the Xb I fell in love with it and I said to myself I have to have one. A month later I had an XB  I love the XB for what it is. Great little looking car with plenty of room, different looking, it's toyota built, and reliable. The thing that cracks me up is people trying to hook this car up with intake and even putting an exhaust on it. Why? The car only produces 108hp and to even make it reasonably fast you have to buy a $3000 supercharger which what, produces 50-60 hp? It's a great economical car to get to work and back and should be left like that, hehe. Don't get me wrong, over all I love the little bugger. I love messing with the civics and the ricers :P

I just smile, they hammer their car and take off. Then I pull up to them at the next light and look at them as though I was sooooo impressed  . As everyone else is looking at the xb I'll nod or wave to the kids clammering to look at it, then turn and smile :P to the hot shot lead foot next to me who no one is paying any attention to. I mean come on folks, we're driving style not power.

It's all about the attention we grab from the punks! But thanks to some recent cool weather, I've been seeing the benefits of CAI...by accelerating passed people going up hill on I270 at 95+MPH 8) 8) 8)

well ill admit. these xb's arent exatly speed missles but they hold thier own. see you just cant set them up againts a supra or a stang or something like that. but againts gen 1,2 tegs ,non v-tec civics, non hybrid turboed out crx's they got a good shot. but dont expect anything magical with just bolt on cat-backs and cai's. youll need some more ammo than just that. still next time your at a light and 2f2f fanatic pulls up next to you just run him you might be surprized how slow some of those body kitted out stickerd up pepsi caned muffler clunkers really are. oh yeah just in case any body was woundering i also own a "fast car" stroked out 91stang . so for all the haters that want to talk sh*t run me im in miami fl. they call me lunchbox 8) [/b]

Had a late 90's cavalier pull up next to me at a light the other day. I was like "whatever" because I know my box is slower than my mountain bike. Then I turned to check out the primered pos and noticed that it was plastered with TRD, Toyota and Celica decals all over the damn thing. Most hilarious thing i've seen in a while. I had to roll down the window and ask him what TRD components he had and if he liked my TRD exhaust and springs. Farkin morons... That's worse than throwing a Benz emblem on your box.
