First off the dash is exactly the same ___ all the other scions everything works together just fine.

The radio brackets are xA brackets

This is the wire Randode did cut to make his nav work I did the same and it works, the headunit does not require the speed sense wire to be hooked up becuase it already is and its that wire. The reason they give you a purple/white wire is becuase its cheaper to keep in in the harness then make a new one.
(not 100% but pretty sure that has to be it)

Best to attach a switch so if you arent watching a movie you can switch it back so the radio has speed sense again even though it works fine without it.


Must also ground Parking brake wire.



The factory beeper is a Blue wire on the drivers fender you can pull it off and over into the engine bay.

It was probably my advice. I saw this sticky and it had me concerned so I went outside to do better measurements. Now, given I haven't taken the speakers out, I can see through the grill that the rear speaker is smaller than the front. So I decided to snap a picture with my dial caliper set at 5.25" and also take a picture of a 5.25" Peerless speaker with the same settings. The first picture you can clearly see the cone, it is the silver round portion behind the grill.

So unless my eyes are deceiving me or the speaker has some strange surround, this looks like a 5.25" speaker to me. Not saying that a 6.5" cannot fit, but this speaker has a significantly smaller cone area compared to the front speakers and the cone area is very similar to the 5.25" speaker in the picture above.

Do you know what wire it is for the passenger unlock motor? This wire is needed for add on security using OEM keyless so that the alarm cannot be disarmed via the unlock switches on the doors.

No idea on the passanger unlock wire but if you pop off the door panel you will see its one of the wires attached to the factory actuator. It will also be found in the passanger kick plug that contains the lock and unlock wires.

Ok that makes sense. So the factory speaker is a 5.25" and the 6.5" speaker reference for the rear doors in the original post is just a recommendation, not the factory speaker size. If you could take some shots of the doors with the panels off, that would be great.

Also a little concerned about speaker depth on the rear doors, does it have to clear the power windows and if so how much depth do we really have?

A few pieces of info from my AVIC-D3 install.

I used the metra 8202 kit from Crutchfield. It fit without hacking off any bolt holes. Not sure why you would need to.

The purple wire that Smartass suggests could be the speed signal wire is indeed the correct wire. I used it and confirmed the unit was receiving signal. This was originally suggested by Randode, thanks to them both.

The red wire used for reverse signal in the factory nav install worked fine for reverse signal.

The location used in the factory install for the GPS antenna worked great, completely hidden.

not the right wiring for the 08's. i installed a preamp in to my factory harnness and went by this code and it was wrong i will post the right one.

Dont follow this if u plan on installing a RCA converter in to your factory deck,!!!

as for changing the color of the buttons on the headunit, its only an option with the "premium" the basic and the navi dont have this option. if you do have the premium turn it off with the PWR button (no tricks here) then press and hold the MENU button and it will beep and a "secret" menu will pop up. then scroll over to ILLUMINATION and select blue.
