Alright I need soem help Cali, What kind of fees did you pay when you brought your Scion? How much were they? What did you think of them? were they disclosed before purchase or were they hidden? Thank guys

I payed Destination, because that's just a gimmie. I also paid the doc fee (it was like $40, and it's justified by saying that they do the DMV stuff for me, and save me a trip). I'll pay anything to keep from having to go to the DMV!

Other than that, not sure what else to be honest. I know with Scion they can't "toss in" any hidden fees, like people often try to do when selling other cars. It's all disclosed, and it's all posted for the customer to see.

what about the california "tire disposal" fee? 5 bucks (they include the spare) for something im not disposing of yet? LAAAAAMMME! Other than that just forty for the doc fee. and of course the destination fee.

oh yeah! Someone just explained that fee to me yesterday, I forgot about it...it's because a bunch of hippies were complaining about the tires piled up all over the place, so now that fee goes towards recycling tires, which they use for asphault, shoes, and soy-based snack foods.

Here in NY we have a $12.50 charge for tire fee on a new car. I laughed my head off about that one. They do anything for a couple of bucks.

$45 documentation fee

$10 NYS inspection (new), $16 NYS inspection (used '02 or older)

licensing fees vary due to weight of the vehicle $12.75 up to ???

destination and freight fees are already built into the price of the vehicle

Destination fees are paid to the manufacturer by the dealer. The tire fee is governmental, as are registration and title fees.

Any other fee should be labeled "additional profit" because that is precisely what it is.

On the average, what'd everyone pay for their Scion out the door?? You know, with tax, license, all that stuff?? I only want an $8000 loan and I'm trying to figure out what I need to put down to get that.

Depends on what accessories you get. I got a bunch of stuff in my car, so my OTD price was about $17,500

Sweet. I just want some fogs outside of the standard stuff. I'm going to buy my own aftermarket rims and what not, and don't really want a stock system, so that's all going to be aftermarket. I tell you what though, tax and license kills ya. I guess the government has to get their $$ somehow. Hey DibujoB, what extras did you get on it to get it around that price??

conveyance is a dealership documentation fee....
As far as I'm concerned, its to make sure that even when we make no money on a car... like an invoice camry or something, the girls upstairs get paid...

they do all the paperwork as far as working with toyota and the dmv and the bank.....
dealerships can charge up to i think 600 dollars for conveyance, but ours is a lot cheaper... and its non-negotiable, meaning its on the purchase order, and if we were to ever neglect to charge someone a conveyance fee, state law says we have to go back to every single customer we've ever had and refund their money....

$1364.55 in tax? Holy crap! It amazes me that people complain about dealer fees but don't seem to mind being ripped off by the government.

VA law is very specific about dealer fees. If we charge one, it has to be the same for all customers, be posted in the showroom and be called "Processing fee." In Northern VA, these fees range between $199 to $299.

Due to an overstock of xA and xB models, we are running a special. We wanted to waive the processing fee, but the only way to do it is to discount the price by the amount of the fee. Here is what a buyer's order looks like for an automatic transmission xB.

Price: $14770
Processing fee $225
State tax: $449.85
Local tax: $25.11
tag and titel: $41.50
DMV on-line fee: $10.00

Total: $15521.46

The on-line fee is a fairly new one. The VA DMV now has an on-line tag system that dealers can use. It saves us time and means the DVM doesn't have to staff a dealer window at the office. For this, we pay $10 more than we otherwise would (makes sense right?). Here's the odd part. We are actually required to pass this on as a seperate line on the buyer's order. I have to keep a copy of the DMV regulation on hand to prove it to some customers. Strange but true.
