Thanks for the info. Quick stupid question, when you up size a tire does it affect the offset or does the offset stay the same regardless. I'd be keeping the diameter close to original size going up to 17 inch wheels.

I am no expert, only reciting the info given to me from Scion, but I THINK the wider the wheel you put on the less offset you run, but it shouldn't have anythinhg to do with the height of the wheel and tire . . .

any experts care to comment?

I hope someone does comment. I've been reading about offset on the net but I can't seem to figure out what offset wheel I should get with a 17x7 wheel. The only wheels I have found of any size with a 39mm offset has been BMW wheels.

The wheel with 39 offset will "stick out" 6mm further out than the same wheel with 45 offset. 6mm = 1/4". Considering how much safety margin manufacturers put in the wheel sizing (allowing for tire chains and such), running 39 offset on a 17x7 wheel should be pretty safe on the new box.

Has anyone confirmed the dimensions above yet?

The replacement size tire for 17X7inch wheels going off shorbergs info would be 215/50/17. It would only be .3 inches taller or 1.3% taller overall than the stock 16" set up.

225/45/17 would be a much closer fit for a 17" wheel on the xD. Plus more rubber on the ground.

225/45/17 would be a much closer fit for a 17" wheel on the xD. Plus more rubber on the ground. It's a tenth of an inch closer in height but you would need to move up to a 7.5 inch wide wheel.

Yup, for best results, one would use a 7.5" wheel, but 7" is minimum recommended for 225/45/17, so you can get away with 17x7.

Me personally would go with the 50 series just for the taller sidewall and added pothole protection.

I might do that, too. narrower tire = better gas mileage. Not like I'm going to be cornering in the xD the same way I do in the Z.

Speaking of 195/60/16 - so far I haven't found an online retailer selling this size, at least in US.

That might be a problem???

205/55/16 is close enough, will fit on the 16x6 wheel and is pretty popular.

I was thinking about keeping the steelies for a change. They don't look that bad, actually.

You could always do the trim ring and center cap thing like on the xB1

I was considering snatching a set of dark gray hubcaps off the tC spec.

I have a 2001 Solara that I will be trading in for a Scion xD (I fell in love with 'em the first time I saw them. 2 family members have xAs and we all love them). I recently bought new Bridgestone Potenza G 009 all around, sized at 205/60HR-16. These should be able to be thrown on to an xD, even though the stocks are 195/60=16, right? (And i guess, those tires should be able to go on to my Solara, shouldn't they?)

I saw a pic of some basic 16" alloys on an xD, they were 6-spokes I think and looked really sweet... anyone know what the optional alloys will look like? (no chrome plz!!!!)

Here is a sample picture of what wheel offset is.

http://www.raceandroad.com/images/ns-offsetexplained.jpg

The higher your offset is (Scion xB = +45), then your mounting face (lug circle) will be outside of your centerline, if your offset is negative (-22), then your mounting face will be inside your centerline.

no idea what my offset is, but my current wheels are 16x6 as are the xDs, and my tires are rated betw. 5.7 and 7.0 width. I've done some looking and finding 195/60-16's is next to impossible... i hope the stock wheels can handle different sized tires w/o trouble.

Don't worry. Toyota dealers will sell you the 195/60/16 at a huge markup.

i think id rather buy some cheap, decent looking aftermarket rims (almost any will look better than the stock hubs anyway) that fit a nice supply of tires than buy some cheap-o dealer tires for $400.00 with a wear rating of 160 -_-
