this was answered in suspension and handling, here is a quick copy and paste hope that answers ur question

I'd like to replace my spings. Do I need to replace the struts too?
- Ideally, you would, but it's not entirely necessary at this point. With lower springs, the struts may encounter a little more wear and tear than normal, but they likely aren't going to blow anytime soon. Even with a severe drop. I know many people are still running on stock struts with new springs and have been without issue for many miles (10-20k+).

How long will my stock struts last if I lower my car?
- There's no way to be sure. It may depend on the springs you install - lower drop (s-techs?) may cause more wear than something not so low (trd?). But that's not to say one would necessarily go before the other. It may also depend on your type of driving. If you're auto-x-ing - you're probably putting more abuse on your stock struts than someone who just has a daily driver to work and such. Ultimately, there's no way to know for sure.

Not to be a dick, but sometimes I wonder if anyone looks for themselves at all anymore.

Guys have to understand that you get new people that join this site everyday so sometimes too many of the same questions may get fustraring. New users may not know where to search for the proper answers HENCE the reason why Thewhiteandbluetc asked about the shocks. I think that people could be a little more patient and help the NEWBIES out.

I also have the tein S techs and was wondering about the wear on the stock shocks.

Trd sounds like a safe bet.

Pls don't take some of us wrong. There's A LOT of people on here that will help out time after time after time for the new people. You will run into some d!cks but your going to have that anywhere honestly. Your 100% right it gets frusterating but hey, we all live and learn. I got the h-techs on my stock shocks/struts and no issues yet, only about 1k on them so far though since I put the springs on. However, the s-techs may/probably will wear the stocks out quicker since they drop the car more. The TRDs are supposedly really nice, kinda expensive, but from what I've read they feel like they were meant to have h or s techs wrapped on them. Now...if you want to push the money and do a nice setup you can get coilovers. Roughly anywhere from 700 to 1400 the last time I checked for Tein Coilovers. They are complete shock, strut, and spring replacements and allow you to custom lower the car and tune the stiffness of them as well. Well worth the investment if you have the money to pork out.

To the original poster, yes putting the s-techs on the stocks will lower the ride, it will look quite nice as well when you do. Ride quality I'm not so sure about as I don't own them but my h-techs did a nice job of making the suspension feel better when cornering. If by quality you mean will you feel every bump in the road? Yes you will indeed feel them But if you mean stiffness and sporty feeling when cornering and stuff then yes you will have better quality with that too. However, nothing really beats a good set of properly configured coilovers with front/rear sway bars, and slightly wider tires for the rims, 225s are nice.
Hope that helps some.

18s on s-tech will be a little iffy depending on tire thickness like 40 versus the stock 45 and the width of the tires too 225 versus the stock 215. The h-techs should have no problem and neither should trds. In fact go here, they kinda list a little of what is good and bad... https://www.scionlife.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=101733 Have fun, 13 pgs of reading material for ya!

nobody has or likes the tanabe springs? cheaper than the trd, not as severe a drop as tein s-techs, but still a nice clean comfortable drop...
