That's a personal preference thing. If it were me, I'd go with rims. They'll make a big difference in the over-all look of the car. A sunroof will be more for you to enjoy but harder for other people to see.
Yea... you can get rims for under a grand.
Sunroof is gonna run you aroung $1500
So, unless you're getting Works or something like that, get rims.
Keep the steelies with the crappy eagles for winter. Don't let salt get on your rims son!

Rims will never leak, or make your car get even hotter when you're parked in the sun.
You can't see your rims when you're driving your car, and they won't help you enjoy beautiful weather.
Decisions, decisions.

I can't tell you how many sunroofs I had to try to fix when I was in the repair industry. You cut a hole in the roof - you risk a leak.
Rims = a good look and solid ride. Of course I am a very pale chick who avoids the sun like a vampire......
Which is going to actually make more of a difference for YOU, when you're driving the car, and not just the aesthetics of the exterior?
My guess is the sunroof.
I have nothing against aesthetics, I just think that when you're choosing between two things, you really ought to go with function over form.

Wheels make a bigger impact on appearance than a sunroof will, but as it was pointed out before, it's always a matter of personal preference.....I have had both at different times...like the wheels better...

High quality sliding sunroofs like Webasto are designed to leak. The soft sliding felt seals are not relied on to keep water out. Weepage is collected in a perimeter gutter that has a drain hose at each corner.
Buy a cheap sunroof, have a body shop cut a hole and pop it in, and you might have a problem.
Pay $1400 to a licensed Webasto dealer/installer, and there are not likely to be problems.
One person here did have a problem, because the installer ran the rear drains horizontally to the rear of the car instead of straight down the B-pillars, and they backed up.
I don't know if the installer was licensed by Webasto or experienced on xBs. It is possible to buy a Webasto direct and take it anywhere for installation, which could lead to problems.
