I have been going around to all the tc forums I frequent to let people know.. (sorry if you've seen this message before)

I got my oil changed from the dealer at 1000 miles and never checked their work.. 1000 miles later I checked and found it's about 1/3-1/2 quart High.. I had them drain it.. I know probably there is no damage but to let everyone know they said that they filled it with 4.0 quarts, well seems maybe 4 is too much for the tC's engine.. maybe 3.7 is more like it?

Just letting everyone know to check their oil and make sure it's at or below the Full mark..

 

Im not a oil expert, but I would fell better knowing I have the exact amount or a little more. A little less I dont think could be a good thing.

 

chuck.. i meant at the line of Full.. but not over full.. since the crankshaft can start to churn the oil and little bubbles appear.. not good for lubrication.. so yeah at the full mark or a hair below full... not like all the way down at add...

 

I see. It makes more sense for them to do it that way any ways though. Even if its only 3.7qt, if you where paying, you would still get charged for a full 4qts. So they just give it to you any ways. I guess if you tell them flat out, they could save it or something. :?

 

Service manual says 4 US qts with a filter change.

 

you're supposed to change it around 1k right?

my friend is running on 4.3k already and still hasnt changed his oil.

 

they say the engines are put in pre broke in for us. I still changed my oil at 1.5K in mine. My wife's I'll let ride for a while though ;-)

 

hmm...my dealer said oil change is at 5000 miles...weird

 

the manual says every 3k...

 

my tC manual says every 5k. I'm looking at the maintnenance log actually, and not the manual. but the maint. log says first oil change and tire rotation at 5k

Hmmm... well... just so you know, its safer to have under-filled oil... rather than over-filled... but of course not to the extreme... also... does anyone know if it should be changed every 5K or 3K? Im prob goin to look at the oil and see if it looks like it needs to be changed at 3K, and I'll let you know

 

Owners maintenance log says 5k. My dealer said 2.5k for the first one.

 

mine, they just put a little sticker on the winshield at 3k (Rinke Toyota)
