rjsalvi 12-22-2003, 02:29 PM Sweet. Looks like the kit comes with a new/different radiator as well? Also -- and judging solely by the pictures -- placement of the intercooler might merit a hood scoop. Hmmm... 8)
dinkjs 12-22-2003, 02:43 PM That is one tiny turbo
Munch 12-22-2003, 02:47 PM That is one tiny turbo
What do you expect? It's atiny engine    .
DjFrOsT 12-22-2003, 03:04 PM i doubt that thing will be puttin 150 to da wheels...how much you think TRD is gonna price that kit?

My guess is between $2k-$3k since it includes a radiator as well. I hope I'm too high because I'm interested. Thing is, if I'm close to being right, I think for 2-3 grand one could bore, stroke (the engine) and tweak the injection system for more than 50HP. However, the turbo kit might be steet legal (CARB).
izzles 12-22-2003, 03:27 PM Now thats sweet and hopefully its under waranty.....(yeah right)
scionracerxb 12-22-2003, 03:48 PM it would be under warranty if it is installed at the dealer!
DibujoB 12-22-2003, 04:09 PM 150ps turbo kit, details to be released on 1-7-2004
can't wait to see what they have to say! Is it just me, or does it look different then the setup they had at SEMA?
trdxyr 12-22-2003, 05:32 PM There is a chance it my be only offered as an "off road" part/kit. Meaning no warranty on the parts because its TRD Japan.
Thus, because it's off road, even if the dealer installs it, still no warranty due to the fact you're getting race/off-road parts installed on your car and the dealer will know that (records) and for sure it will void your new car/powertrain warranty.
That's is what I was afraid of.
Red_Genie_xB 12-22-2003, 05:49 PM Under the notes, it says the car come with VSC and TRC , and factory alarm system are not able to have the turbo installed...
Didn't our xBs and xAs comes with TRC? Even we can turn that thing off but I think once you have that on your car the turbo is not allowed...
with about 150 at the crank, and the weight of the xBs and xAs... it could be faster than MRS, that is a good thing :D
toyota_ist 12-22-2003, 06:07 PM This turbo kit from TRD Japan is not the same kit as the one on the SEMA xB.
DibujoB 12-22-2003, 06:09 PM just heard a rumor that TRD isn't even close to releasing a turbo. Think 12-14 months. Don't know if it's true or not, but suppossedy it's straight from TRD
quadraphonic 12-22-2003, 06:23 PM There was breif talk of a turbo echo hatch here in Canada, but to my knowledge that idea has been either killed or put on hold. Also, as far as I know, there's no plans for a TRD supercharger either.
Unfortunately we're all stuck with the Toyota master plan. Pump out nice looking cars at affordable prices (but with few options) to lure first-time buyers, and then make a larger more powerful model with ALL the options as an upgrade.
I bet you'll see more "official" tC engine upgrades than for the xA and xB.
Kind of bugs me though.
Milhamscion 12-22-2003, 07:26 PM My rep told me we can expect forced induction for the tC before we get it for the xA or xB!!!
showpaojoe 12-22-2003, 08:09 PM The Toora power enterprise supercharged xB is pushing 124whp. And does it say the TRD is around 110? Hope it's more
phishie 12-22-2003, 08:33 PM what do you think the xb would do in the quarter mile wiht 124 whp?
showpaojoe 12-22-2003, 08:59 PM stock car with s/c will put you somewhere in the low 16's/ very high 15's. Probably be hitting 16.2-16.5 on average. It'll be a big difference though and worth it on the street I think.
tbblizzard 12-22-2003, 09:23 PM i think they're better off making the sc... the engine has a hard time getting up to the high rpms so spoolin the turbo will take a while, but once its there it'll proly take off. someone said the sc was being made by TRD, first time i've heard of the turbo by TRD though. i'ma get that sc once it comes out, rather have that than a turbo on this thing. that turbo doesn't look like it's going to have much lag, but i just think it's going to be slow off as hell until you start getting up around 4000rpms
toyota_ist 12-22-2003, 09:43 PM The turbo will not have that much turbo lag coz it is a small unit. It should be great!
quadraphonic 12-22-2003, 11:29 PM That, AND I find the engine gets up in RPMs fairly quickly..
however, as I mentioned above, I wouldn't hold my breath for a Toyota TC or SC to come out for this engine anytime soon.
Alter_Ego 01-02-2004, 03:33 AM A turbo that small or just any small one would spool well before 4000 rpm.

actually thats the kit off the Vitz Turbo RS ... yes its alittle hatchback in Japan that weights in 1600lbs and makes 150hp and 145ft lb
Wraith 01-02-2004, 09:28 AM stock car with s/c will put you somewhere in the low 16's/ very high 15's. Probably be hitting 16.2-16.5 on average. It'll be a big difference though and worth it on the street I think.
dammm... thats what I'm hitting with my echo ... I've hit high 15's with a really good clutch... Maybe Feb. I can lay down some new numbers with the new lighten Spec kevlar clutch and my JUn Lighten flywheel...
UrbanDrum 01-02-2004, 09:35 AM I thought someone said TRD stopped playing with turbos... :?
Wraith 01-02-2004, 09:55 AM I thought someone said TRD stopped playing with turbos... :?

if my memo serves me correctly whp is measured different in japan. it shows less but when you calculate it to out standards it is actually more. i will try to find the article that that i read this in. it also tells you how to calculate it and covert it
showpaojoe 01-02-2004, 06:18 PM hotbox...that Toora car is here in the states man. They enter in the same shows that TSW does and I talked to them in person when ever I see them and that was by word of mouth. That's not a jdm car and those aren't jdm whp numbers if that's what you were reffering to. I hope that they are lower if you are correct but I doubt it.
HotBox 01-02-2004, 06:27 PM i was referring to the dyno chart at the top
showpaojoe 01-02-2004, 06:35 PM Alright, cool man. But the thing that sucks is that the Toora is still making 124 and thats with company tuning and all that ____ so we'd be lucky to even hit that number which is pretty small still.
JDMxB 01-02-2004, 07:10 PM If it's 124 to the wheels, that's a pretty good number to have on the Scions.
Some of us are still jealous because people have 103hp.
quadraphonic 01-03-2004, 10:55 PM I might be wrong about no turbo for the 1NZ-FE.. didn't realize TRD had a turbo at SEMA. Maybe there's hope still.
Wraith 01-24-2004, 04:03 AM Sorry for the late reply on this topic ... Yesterday I went for a full tour of TRD in Costa Mesa facility and I confirmed it yesterday that they are planning of coming out with the Turbo Kit for the 1NZ-FE
quadraphonic 01-24-2004, 04:04 AM Intercooled? Also, do you figure it'll be compatible with the engine bays of all 1NZ-FE based cars? (Echo, Echo Hatch, xA, xB)

its originally for the Vitz so it will definitly fit my echo ... But, its going to be released as a XB kit...
ncscion 01-25-2004, 02:51 AM in my subject will this fit our xb in power hungry there is a link to trd in japan. that is a vitz turbo kit and they have the same engine as the xb http://toms-trd.com.hk/eng/main_common.asp?channelid=30&channelcat_id=104&catname=%A5D%AD%B6&contentid=7691 this site also has the s/c

My insider also told me that the Turbo kit will be release with the XB limited edition...
Kunfuzed01 02-11-2004, 03:53 AM Are you talking about the RS 1.0? If so, then it should be out in March?

do you mean released at the same time right???? that would be cool..I know all my techs are ready to start installing turbos....they ask me about it all the time...
SoCalbBox 02-11-2004, 09:02 PM TRD had their turbo xB at Exposed. That kit pictured is definately not what was on the xb as mentioned earlier. I'd like to see the manifold up close. It looked almost like a box?!?! 2 plates, where one attached to the head and the other to the turbo. Plates were probably close to .75" each. Very strange setup.
