I think that it says most speakers won't fit our car... you're going to need some new baffles I believe to make most speakers fit. ED has a set for our car:
www.edesignaudio.com

They're basically adapters.

Yes Alpines will fit, I had Type-Ss front and back. Also 70% might be where that HU starts clipping and making the speakers sound like crap. So it might not necessarily be the speakers.

yes especially if you have bass or treble highly boosted in the EQ, or are using BBE or loudness and things of such. also are you using crossovers or are the speakers playing full range? crossovers help a lot also to keep frequencies out that a seperate subwoofer should be playing.

the stock front interiors are actually very good for stock speakers and sound great when EQ'ed and crossed over correctly. the backs are so so. they can't handle any bass below 80hz very well. so i faded the rears out a little bit.

Crutchfield makes me wonder about the speakers that they say DO fit. Do they bolt straight up to the door?

Nothing will be a direct replacement for the stock speakers. There measurements are based on a baffle of a certain size for the depth (I'm guessing) which is why they would say the Alpines don't fit. My type-ss were installed on 1/4" mdf (idiot installers) so the window would clank against the back of the speaker when it was rolled down. The installers solution was to dynamat the back of the speaker. But I would argue that constitutes not fitting. Get the baffles from eD and any 6 1/2" component set will fit just fine.
