Default photochop white w/ white A-pillar

I'm not very good with The GIMP. Anyone with real pics of a white xB with tape peeled on the A-pillars?

For the life of me, I can not figure out Toyota's fascination with black vinyl tape.

Oh, and nice chop.

I use GIMP on my Macbook. I think Toyota wants the impression that the side windows is one large window. It's probably more efficient to paint the entire car including the pillars then add the tape vs. creating mfg. tooling to keep the pillars from being painted.

The whole black tape thing is by no means exclusive to Toyota/Scion. My old Mazda Protege from 2003 had it, as does my Father in Law's Pt Cruiser. It's a common enough trick. I don't actually think it looks bad. Especially on light colored cars. The White looks kinda fugly without the tape IMHO.

Edit: Missed the bit about the A pillars. I was talking about the doors, not the A pillars

Toronado, just was thinking about the pockets on the rear sides, where the 1st Gen xB quarter glass was, because they seem large enough to handle a 6x9 speaker. Just wondering.. is this something that would be usable if enclosure fabricated to fit? Maybe angle forward or back, maybe 6" or 8" subs.....

I agree. The window frames of the doors should be blacked out one way or another - either tape or paint. It's just the A-pillars only that I think might look better as body color, though I'm not sure.

Heres a link to a guy who already did the tape removal.

personally, I like the blacked out front window look, but the matte vinyl just doesn't cut it. I'd get some gloss vinyl to replace it.

It really breaks the lines of the car when you pull the tape off on the lighter colors. I won't be doing that on my super white thats for damn sure
