View Full Version : Having car trouble and Dealership trouble

Hi folks!!

I hit the 5k mark, got my 1st oil change at my dealership Scion Central in LA. It's been a bit over a week and my engine sounds like it;s got 130k on it. It's embarrassing to hear it clanking like it's old and weak. I thought it was cause of the low end gas but I think it's cause they put in cheap oil.

However this is not really the issue. My air conditioner broke. The AC line connecting to the radiator is leaking and I need a dealer that is not gonna look at my car and look for excuses why it's not covered under warranty. I watched them looking at it and admiring it then giving me the same damn look the cops always do when they are gonna really give you a hard time. Then they start asking questions :)

But, I need a dealer that can adjust and deal with a car with Neon's under the car also.

I am a bit annoyed cause when I went into the dealer today they were so looking for ways not to be responsible for my car at all. I think they never working on a modded car before. Crazy cause it's in LA for Pete's sake.

I am just a bit frustrated and think with all the scions out there modified they would have some exp. One guy did not even know how to close my CF hood!!! I think they are scared of the car! Sheesh I mean my car is not even close to modified as many others are.

I just want my darn air fixed since it's not my fault it's broke and I do not want to brake my neon's cause of a dealers laziness :) if it is laziness. I could be completely responsible for all of these problems but I don't think so.

NOTE: Not looking for a free ride here for the sake of it. If anyone has info on AC lines breaking near the Radiator that has similar specs as me or has that real bad rattling sound at 5k miles with same specs or situation and had a warranty problem please let me know :)

california has a no lemon law for new cars.. I'd remind them of that.. and they must prove that you damaged it..

Might have found another dealership that has a lift for the car. Longo Scion also has allot more exp. with modified scions I believe.

Sniffs is right. They have to prove that modified parts caused the damage.

ie. Having intake may void engine warranty but not Drivetrain.

I would for sure bring this up at the dealership.

I agree and know this. I am willing to bite the bullet if there "IS" and issue on my part. I do have an agency pulley. Never heard of any probs like this anywhere though.

trust me James the pully has nothing to do with the A/C line leaking just tell them that you feel that your freon leaked out cause it wont blow out cold air and the will find where the leak is coming from

I was going to suggest Longo as well.

When my car was white with the Kaminari kit, the dealer I bought from denied me my free oil changes unless I signed a waiver stating if they damaged anything on my car, they were not responsible for it - NO THANKS!

Wow! kk, well I am leaving in like 10 min for longo :) Hey Cynce! Glad I got the chance to photograph your Tc before you left.

KK good news, bad news and then good news :). Good news is I know what the problem is.

Good news is Longo Toyota is Huge!! and a really cool place! Great service dept. They are VERY friendly and made me feel right at home :) I also stopped and chatted with Richard in the Scion sales to drop of a DVD of the pics from the show + some one else (Cynce's friend) recognized me from the Longo show last.

Bad news is it's the air condenser. You can see the dent in the grill from whatever hit it. it's not under warranty and it would cost $850 to fix including labor etc. from them.

Good news is it might not cost as much cause I am going to a radiator shop to try and have it tapped for like $30.

So a simple problem that is also completely an out of pocket problem. Maybe my insurance would take the claim but at what cost later.

Heh, TY :) I do not really like getting older but oh well :)

I do have good news. So far I found a place with the help of a friend (Chris/06scioxb) that took the Condenser for a $35 weld :) If all goes well I will have my AC working by Friday night all for under $100 including Freon/oil install and weld.

ALLOT better than the $850 the dealer wanted to charge me :)

INFINI

KK well so far no cold air coming out :) The Air condenser has pressure but our attempt at waisting like 2 cans of Freon failed to produce any results.

I have to find an Auto Air conditioner specialist cause I am spinning my wheels here. Anyone know one??

INFINI
07-09-2007, 09:36 PM
UPDATE:

The AC specialist says his diagnosis is a bad air compressor now :( not the fixed Condenser.

I am starting to get a eye twitch!! Back to the dealer to see if it's under warranty!!!!!!!!!

Mightygnu
07-09-2007, 10:17 PM
hmmm should be, I don't think that would be considered a wear and tear part and mods wouldn't affect it. keep us posted!

INFINI

Gonna go to Longo again. I made an appointment for Tues. morning for a re-charge. I am not gonna tell them anything. Let them figure out the problem since I fixed what they told me was wrong to begin with.

Mightygnu
07-09-2007, 10:26 PM
good idea. need that AC for summer lol.

So you going to the 909 meet? Vegas? Nationals? Busy week...

INFINI

Maybe none depending on my $$ situation and I have not heard back form Kirby about the nationals show.

Not sure why the compressor would not be covered. They would have to prove you damaged it somehow. Good luck!!

INFINI
07-11-2007, 06:37 AM
Yeah I am sure they will blame it on my Pulley. I have no doubt after a really long day at the dealership today "again" that they will find a way to not warranty the parts.

They could not find the problem and gave me this BS about how they are really not used to having to deal with a fixed condenser rather than a brand new one and that my pulley is a different diameter than the OEM (BIG BS on that) so they really can't tell whats' wrong.

THis is 2 weeks of "DAYS" off of my life I will never get back.

Mightygnu
07-11-2007, 06:59 AM
I still don't see how it could be in anyway the pulley...

good luck though james!

INFINI
07-11-2007, 07:06 AM
Yeah thanks. I need some positive energy thrown this way. I mean I am a hard man to please to begin with :) So this is really killen me.

I gotta give Chris in Baldwin Park a shout out of respect for spending so much time tying to help on this problem.

hey whats up fellas yeah i have tried everything to troubleshoot the A/C adding freon and taking it all out but still it wont work... and the dealership saying that it is the pulleys fault that is (BS) they are the same diameter why we used the same oem belt if it was smaller we would need a smaller belt cause oem would slip right damn these dealers

Mightygnu
07-11-2007, 03:07 PM
look @ chris, creating his own website to make some $!

INFINI

The dealer is not blaming the pulley "yet" but I am sure they will try later. They are saying they cannot find the problem and need everything stock for them to make the right tests. Including the fact I had the condenser welded instead of just replaced.

Did you have a set of gauges on the a/c at any time? and if you did what were your readings? :ponder:

INFINI
07-12-2007, 06:14 AM
We used gauges each time. We made sure all was good and that it was in the blue (ok) and at anytime if it was over in the yellow etc. we adjusted.

No, I meant what are your readings on a gauge set that has numbers,do you know what the suction and discharge was doing according to a gauge with numbers?

INFINI
07-12-2007, 04:33 PM
Oh, all I remember from looking at the device the AC specialist used was a 0 on the left gauge. No suction.
