Default My xbB story: Phoenix as i call her...

Well - as i posted before 4 moth ago i bought 2 xB's in US auctions. One was going to be left for my wife / our daily driver - second one had to be for sale. After long wait they both came home. One is Silver 04' with the side damage another one was Maroon 06'with the heavy front damage... At first our desidion was to leave for our self the grey one and sell the Marron one, but once my Wife saw the Maroon color in real life - her words where I WANT THIS RED no matter what lol :D

After i managed to switch the ignition on the Maroon one (it had all the fuses / relays pulled out and non of them was in the car...) i saw a very pleasant view - 3655miles on the speedo :D so basicly it was almost new :D As before the Maroon one was used as Rent car in a ZipCar company, it was in really really good shape - so we desided - Red one will be ours - grey will have to find a new home :D It was kinda brave desidion - cuz i live in Europe where the Xb's where never sold - so its kinda hard to find parts (the only way to get them was to ship them from US...) So i thougt about this parts situation before - and managed to get Toyota bB 02' from Japan, and it got used as a parts car (cuz we CAN NOT Drive RHD cars here...)

So the huge work was in front of me :D Before the work pics here are few shots of all my boxes stangind Nose to Nose :D

Here is a closer look at the Maroon xb, you can see how hard was the front left frame smashed, cuz all the damage was on the front suport bar from the side, left frame got pushed out to the left side, along all this gearbox was cracked + lower subframe bend... But i wasnt worried too much about this cuz i had all the needed parts from bB :D

Before all the frame works on the Xb i had to fully reasemble it in interior, removing basicly everything till the rear seats, as this wasnt a hard job for me cuz last 5 years of my life im working on Toyota's (performance / exterior tuning, JDM imports) .

So once the xB was ready, we put it on frame straightning machine and all the jobs where left to my friend, cuz he does this for living and has 20 years practice :D so he knew already what to do

First step was to fully change the left front frame, fix all the bends in the firewall, change the lower subframe along with the left shock (it was bend). Here are some pics of the B with the new frame already tack welded in the factory places :D

Here are some pics of all the parts laying around

Subframe from bB:

Full front frames from bB

Interior main wiring along with the metal bar:

And the only new part that i ordered at local toyota dealership - new fender - got it at super price 120$ :D

Well once the frame welding works where done - i had to step in and paint everything:

After the paint was done - full front frames from bB where welded in and i had to paint them too (sorry no pics...)

After all this - i had to asemble everything back, it took me kinda long, cuz i worked like ful 3 days to get everything back as it had to be... But it was all worth it :D Cuz once i drove the box for the firt time - i felt in love with it :D

Here are some pics of the 2 of my boxes fully finished :D

You can compare bB front with the Xb front

And finally heres MY personal ride - Celica SSIII Beams 99' JDM RHD converted to LHD and my wifes x-bB as i call it now :D

I still have to post some good shots of this bB, cuz now i only have this one:

Well for now thats it :D Sorry for such a long writing, and be easy on my English - cuz English isnt my main language...

sweet man, that's a lot of work you did there.

Just curious, why are you not allowed to drive rhd vehicles where you are?

Well - if you lets say live in UK (RHD cars / traffic) and you come here with the RHD car - you are able to drive it with UK registration plates, but if you buy RHD car from uk, and you want to register it - its not posible, cuz of the laws we have here + insurance wount insure RHD car as far as i know..

Glad to see a trashed box resurrected!

Is that BCP or Salsa Red Pearl? It looks to me like it might be too light to be BCP. Anyhoo, it's sweetsweetsweet to see it fixed up. And your English is better than my whatever-your-first-language-is. How could I complain?

Excellent job! The box is a great little city car, and very eager to please - I'm sure your wife will enjoy it. :D

More pictures when you have a chance.

(To satisfy the folks here wondering which color Phoenix is, what's the color code on the door frame label?)

Take care,
Tom

What are all the slots in your garage floor? They look like expansion joints but you don't need them on a small area of concrete like that. Are they rails to slide stuff around?

Well - first its not my garage - its my friends workshop.

Second - these are rails for fixing the points where the tensioner for the chain is fixed. Basicly once the car is on stands - you fix metal plate to smached piece of body, fix the tensioner to the rails put the chain between those 2 and you can pull out the metal and etc

That looks really good.

On the profile shot of the red x-bB, it looks like the front is sitting a lot lower than the back. Is this the case? Is it by design?

Also, your English is better than most people on this board.

Congrats! Looks good.

In front i used bB suspension (cuz one shock of xb was damaged - so i desided to put both shocks and springs from bB) maybe this is the case why it sits lower, cuz bB was 02' and had like 68K km on the speedo..

In real life my front sits lower at about 1-1.5 cm then rear...

Quick question, why didnt you just convert the bB to LHD, or respray the silver xB to be the correct color? Your work is amazing though, one couldnt even tell that that xB was ever mangled!

Becose bB had huge rear damage and some light front damage, and converting from RHD to LHD on bB its way too much expensive money wise then just part it out use parts for 2 Xb's that needed parts and sell the rest of the parts. Basicly i got the bB for 3000$ importes here - after part out and parts use i got back from it around 2300$ so only 700$ left :D One of my friends just got for his wife another trashed Xb so he will be buing parts from me too - so im basicly get my self out dry out of the water :D

Respraying isnt an option too - resprayed car is a resprayed car... If the frame works are done corectly the car will be just like it was before damage + you would not notice ANYTHING even if i took best pics ever from any angles :D The only downside that i have now - is that i dont have airbags... Technicly i do have them (from bB) but my 06'Xb has dual port airbags (from 04 till 05 i think most of the Xb's came with single port (2 wires come to airbag)) and on bB there are single port bags... So im gonna look for the airbags later - for now no airbags for me...

I didnt even notice the chrome door handles, that looks really really nice on the red!

That's what I thought but turns out it's an 06.5' so it's Salsa red pearl.
