Well i've had the idea to expose my crossovers since well.... like day one and i finally got bored and did it.

But talk about a pain in the *** these things are massive. hahahaha

had to screw them in, put the cover on and then drill the holes. i already did the drivers side door but i figured i'd snap a couple of shots before i threw in the passenger side door.

so here ya go

i'd do them on icix but nobody is there to approve them so photobucket it is

I like it. I am debating if I am going to fiberglass them in the trunk and the glovebox, or the door.

??? wth are crossovers

tC4italy
07-05-2007, 07:04 PM
as in what's the purpose of them

Keeshwah

as in what's the purpose of them

They separate frequencies so that the woofer gets lower frequencies and the tweeter gets higher frequencies.

Maybe I can do something cool with mine when I put the 3-ways in. :)

yep this is purely temporary until i get my dls ir 6.3's. these are going to be going in a pod in the back with some monitors and all 6 crossovers will be going in the trunk / back seat area when the project starts but this is just to get me through the end of the show season

that is unless i decide to run everything active, then thats a totally new story

And if so then you'll definitely have to show them off since active is so damned expensive. You should get Bing to fab up something pimp for you.

or i'll just make it myself.

and active isn't that expensive. just have to get a good eq and a beefy amp. can you say nine.5 ftw

Very simple explaination...

The tweeter plays the high frequency stuff... usually cymbals, most vocals probably... high stuff.

The woofer (or mid range) will play the medium-low stuff. Usually the guitar, rhythm, that sort of stuff.

The subwoofer... well, you should know what a subwoofer does. :)

The crossover is generally for the first two - so that he proper frequency goes to the correct type of speaker. One line in, two lines out (one for the tweeter and one for the woofer). And you'd have two crossovers in total - one for each side.

gotcha :D thanks for the explanation!

active?

Dr_Isotope
07-06-2007, 07:03 PM
Active is having a dedicated amp channel for each tweeter and each midrange, and using no passive crossovers to split the signals.

nebster
07-06-2007, 08:40 PM
yeah sorry i didn't say that. i figured everyone knew that.

ZTC

so using the high pass and low pass? is active?
or the actual channel

nebster

setting the hpf and lpf with your eq / sound processor is active. crossovers typically do that themselves (thats passive)

its much more expensive to run a setup in active than it is in passive because you need to have an external processor / eq as well as a channel for each speaker powerful enough to power the mid and the tweet (NOT just the crossover)
