Default Alternator removal and fitment questions..

I'm going to be swapping out my Alternator next week and was wondering where the belt tentioner was on our xB's. Is it hard to pull the alternator?

Also, does anyone know if an Alternator off of a 91-92 MR2 will fit in our stock location and work properly?

Are there any other cars that have the same size location as we do so that I could install something larger?
I know I can have the Alternator respun and add about 15 more amps, but that isn't much.

Any help will be much appreciated.

Here is the trick, pull out the top bolt, and the bracket. Push the alternator as far forward as you can (the direction to loosen the belt), now you have room to get the bottom bolt out, easier.

top bolt 12mm
bottom bolt 14mm

if you are still wondering how to do it, the easiest way is to remove the front bumper, then remove the windshield washer reservoir, then you have a clear shot at the bottom bolt, use an impact gun and an extension if you have access, it makes getting the bolt out a lot easier.

Why take off that much? That takes too much time and is very unnessacary.

i almost stripped the bolt trying to rock the alternator like you said to do, and get a tool in to remove the bolt in that cramped space, enven when i removed the bumper, which takes a mere 5-10mins, and had a straight shot at the bolt, it was starting to strip with a socket, the impact gun was the only thing i could use to take it off without stripping it.

IMHO taking steps that may take longer would make things easier and lesser chance of a headache from something breaking and what not........i normally take off my front bumper and stuff when i do things like when i changed out my clutch........
